It appears that executive producer Chuck Lorre’s time on CBS is ending after a long tenure. Over the past 20 years, Lorre has written and executive produced Two and a Half Men, The Big Bang Theory, Mike & Molly, Mom. B Positive, and United States of Al. His last remaining shows, Young Sheldon (season seven) and Bob ♥ Abishola (season five), are ending with their upcoming seasons.
Starring Iain Armitage, Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Annie Potts, Montana Jordan, Raegan Revord, Emily Osment, and Jim Parsons (as narrator), Young Sheldon is a prequel to The Big Bang Theory. As for Bob ♥ Abishola, Billy Gardell and Folake Olowofoyeku star in the series about an unlikely pair’s romance.
In a recent interview with THR, Lorre spoke about ending both shows and his future on broadcast television. The two sitcoms are ending for different reasons. For one, it was time to end it; for the other, it was cancelled.
Lorre said the following about the two shows ending:
“They’re very different situations. We have reached the time in the cycle of Young Sheldon where Iain Armitage is 14 years old now. He’s pushing 6 feet tall. We’ve told that story, and the remainder of his path leading up to The Big Bang Theory happens at Caltech in California. Following him from 8 to 15 seems like the natural life span of the show. That was a feeling that was shared between myself and Steve Molaro and Steve Holland, who have been instrumental in keeping this thing as extraordinary as it’s been.
Bob Hearts Abishola is a different story. There’s so many more stories to tell.… I don’t necessarily feel we were done. But that was not my call.”
As for Lorre’s future in broadcast television, he said the following:
“In the words of Douglas Adams, “Thanks for all the fish.” I think it’s goodbye. I don’t know. I still love the medium, whether it be working in front of an audience or the single-camera approach, I still think it’s a wonderful way to create an ensemble of characters that then you can attach to and care for.”
What do you think? Did you want to see more of either series? Do you have a favorite among Lorre’s many CBS shows?
I would love to know why??? I can understand Young Sheldon as the character is growing up but why cancel Bob heart Abishola? It is an excellent show with such wonderful actors! My husband and I looked forward each week to it. Light-hearted and funny, just what the world needs right now. Please reconsider!!!
I don’t want Bob ❤️ Abishola to end
Hate to see Young Sheldon go, but understand. Don’t cancel Bob❤️Abrishola. Perfect show for today’s environment. Well written.. Excellent cast.
I hate to see Bob heart Abishola go I loved watching it and looked forward to the night it came on I’m sure another Reality show will take its place take the stupid Kardashian‘s off the tv enough is enough of swelled heads and fake asses please don’t take bob hearts abishola off tv
I never cared at all for the Bob A. show, so I won’t miss it at all.
As for Young Sheldon, yes, this would be a great time to end it & give a show to Georgie, his wife & baby & make sure to add Meemaw. She, in my opinion, was the best thing on the show.
I really hate to see Bob hearts Abishola. This was such a funny and touching show. It could have went on for many more seasons. It will be greatly missed.
Hopefully there could be a spinoff of other characters from Big Bang. The show had many great actors. Leonard in therapy remembering his childhood could be funny! As far as Bob ❤ Abashola, I don’t know why it was canceled. I hope you wrap it up to leave the door open for something in the future. I love the show.
