CSI: Miami: Cancelled by CBS, No Season 11

canceled CSI MiamiAfter 10 seasons, it’s time for David Caruso to turn in his sunglasses. CBS has cancelled CSI: Miami, the first show in the CSI franchise to end.

Starting in 2002, the TV series follows a South Florida team of forensic investigators who often use advanced scientific methods to solve crimes. The current cast includes Caruso, Adam Rodriguez, Emily Procter, Eva La Rue, Jonathan Togo, Omar Benson Miller, and Rex Linn.

The ratings for CSI: Miami have declined over the years. Season nine averaged a 2.1 in the coveted 18-49 demographic with 9.85 million total viewers. That was down from season eight by 13% in the demo (vs a 2.4 rating) and down by 5% in viewership (vs 10.39 million).

While the cop show’s overall viewership is still impressive, advertisers want shows that cater to the demo audience and the network has many shows that attract big overall audiences.

Should CSI: NY have been cancelled instead?

What’s more, after 10 seasons on the air, CSI: Miami is no doubt very expensive to produce and there are already 232 episodes, more than enough to keep running in syndication for many years.

Nina Tassler, President of CBS Entertainment, suggested that one of the CSI shows might be cancelled this month. The original CSI was already renewed so it was a guessing game to see if Miami or NY would bite the bullet. CSI: NY has reportedly been renewed for season nine.

Of the cancellation news, CBS released the following statement:

CSI: Miami leaves an amazing television legacy – a signature look and style, global popularity and as a key player in CBS’s rise to the top over the past decade. We thank all the producers – led by Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman and Ann Donahue — and its talented cast, led by David Caruso, for 10 outstanding seasons. Viewers around the world will continue to enjoy rebroadcasts of CSI: Miami in syndication and on key digital platforms for many years to come.

What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that CSI: Miami has been cancelled? Will you miss the show? Was it time for it end or would you have liked to have seen an 11th season?

Canceling CSI Miami is so wrong. The first big mistake was moving it to a Sunday night timeslot in the middle of football season. It was hard to keep up with what time it would actually air…(which on the east coast would mean anywhere from 1-3 am). Haven’t you ever heard the saying “if it isn’t broken..don’t fix it”? CSI Las Vegas had run it’s course after 3 main characters left the show. It actually had a closure feel to it. But CSI Miami and CSI NY still have a longer run in them. Looks like CBS executed an innocent show. That’s a shame too…so many of us were anticipating the new season.

I didn’t know the show was cancelled and have been waiting for the new season – I’m so disappointed! CSI Miami was my favorite of the CSI shows. Loved the characters and the story lines. I agree, what a shame! Bad decision CBS!!!

Why cancel CSI Miami over CSI NY. The characters on CSI Miami were much more fun to watch than the boring characters on CSI NY. Not giving the characters a chance on CSI Miami to have one last season for their characters and their viewers is a shame. This was a bad decision on CBS’ part and they should consider having at least having a half season to allow the viewers and characters to have closure.

PLEASEEEEE bring back Csi Miami. I love it best of all the CSI’. You picked a bad airing time when you put it on Sunday after the football games that all ran late. It was hard to find when it came on and and could not even tape it……. Give it a better day and time.

I hate this. I love CSI Miami. It’s the first CSI I watched. I can’t believe u let this show get cancelled. U should have cancelled CSI Las Vegas. Miami to me was the best of all the CSI’s shows. I’m really going to hit not seeing CSI Miami and the talent cast they have. I hope something happens where they get renew. Hell cancel NCSI Los Angeles. I don’t even watch that show. Man I going to miss CSI Miami.

It was my favorite, set at the beach means more eye candy, the cast didn’t keep changing. The silver lining is I don’t have much time so it’s a hour of my life I get back, because it was must see for me and the wife.

Stupid and very bad decision indeed! And what a very poor end to such a good serie! Las Vegas sucks! Why not cut that one after grissom, warrick and catherine left the show? Even Laurence Fishburne didn’t play a very good part in it although i always think of him as a good actor!
Hope cbs makes at least one more episode… the happy ever after?

I think it is terrible that CSI Miami is canceled. The original CSI Lsa vegas should have been chopped since most of the originals are no longer there, Ted Danson… no way Put Miami back on or the CBS line up will suck as far as i am concerned. VERY BAD DECISION CBS!!

  14. Tristan says

You have got to be kidding me! Why not cancel Las Vegas, let that Ted Danson go back to where everybody knows his name! CSI Miami was the best of the three, such as shame. Bad decision CBS!!
