One of the shocks of the recent cancellations was that CBS’ drama Jericho was let go after one season. The Skeet Ulrich series did well in the ratings initially but, like Lost, took an extended hiatus during the winter months. When it returned earlier this year, many of the show’s casual viewers didn’t.
The series finished its freshman year on May 9th with a number of storylines unresolved, so fans were understandably upset to learn the series wouldn’t be returning. They’ve been very vocal about it and apparently, CBS has heard them loud and clear. CBS recently announced the following statement on the Jericho messageboard:
To the fans of Jericho:
We have read your emails over the past few days and have been touched by the depth and passion with which you have expressed your disappointment. Please know that canceling a television series is a very difficult decision. Hundreds of people at the Network, the production company and the incredibly-talented creative team worked very hard to build and serve the community for this show – both on-air and online. It is a show we loved too.
Thank you for supporting Jericho with such passion. We truly appreciate the commitment you made to the series and we are humbled by your disappointment. In the coming weeks, we hope to develop a way to provide closure to the compelling drama that was the Jericho story.
Sincerely,
Nina Tassler, President of CBS Entertainment
Score one for the fans but, it’s unclear what Tassler means by “developing closure.” A full second season or just a handful of episodes? A two-hour movie or webisodes? A novel or a short story synopsis?
It’s hard to say at this point but, its doubtful that the most devout of fans are going to be satisfied with anything less than a sophomore year. That could prove rather expensive and difficult for the network to provide since they officially cancelled the series. The cast was likely released from their contracts and would have to be renegotiated.
Will we see the residents of Jericho again? This story’s just getting interesting so, stay tuned!

Please! No movie ending. Let’s have Jericho back at least for another season. If by then the fans have changed their minds, you’ll have good reason to drop it once and for all. But come on! Give it another chance. It’s a very enjoyable show. My family looks forward to it every week.
funny you go to work all week waiting for the next show ,then you think its the off season, then you find out the show was cannceled.damm i was waiting for the next show .bring back the show at least 1 more season please!!!!!
I hope it’s not too late. The Jericho cast will get new roles on other shows if CBS doesn’t act now. Please keep Jericho on the air and give us many more seasons. I like the idea of a ’48′ episode commitment.
I am very pleased that CBS is going to let the series Jericho return. It has a quality to it that goes very deep.It is a series to make us all stop and think about what could happen. The actors do a great job in their portrayal of all the different aspects of life during and after a major disaster.I am looking forward to see where the next season will take the cast and the audience in this one of a kind series.
This seriously as a strong parrellel to another story. Serenity. Huge fan base, and was cancelled after 1 season. Great chemistry and writing. It was called Firefox when it aired on SCI FI channel. Anyways, the fans fought hard, and they went ahead and made the movie Serenity to tie up the missing seasons that didn’t get aired. It wasn’t hardly as good as getting all those unmade seasons, but the closure was really nice.
It seems to me that Jericho may get something similar, and that just kinda sucks
Jericho was and is the best show on t.v. to stop it is crazy. What the problem is in my humble opnion is the mid season breaks. What happend to the good old days when a show was on for a complete season without interuption? You did not lose fans or our attention. Some other show did not get our focus. Why must every show be taking mini vacations these days!!!That is what is killing them.
WHAT THE H***?! this is the best show i have ever watched.. i used to watch lost and its Jerico is way better.. plus they can’t just stop the show at a season finnaly! People like me who are almost obsessed would GO MAD. some one better get the show running or me and my friends will DO SOMTHING ABOUT IT!
thanks
cbs has little or no taste as far as shows goes,, jerico was very good and they killed it. who ever decides such things should be fired……
We are very upset about the cancelling of the best show ever. Jericho was one of the best written and acted TV series. We are in late sixties, but we still like good tv, and someone has to ruin it. If it does’t return,I can certainly find a network that cares about its’ fanbase.
The first time i heard of jerico is when i went to block buster now that i have seen the whole first episode i was hopeing to see a finalie finding out that there wont be i hope we will hear news on the finaly of jericko….
i really enjoyed watching this show i do hope your comming back SOON
Jericho is a really awsome show. I had never really seen until my friend told me about it. So i went to buy the 1 season and was in awwwed. For some reason i can’t understand why you would cancle such a great show. I even gave the vidios so my mom could watch.
I like Jericho more than any dram, I wish to see Jericho again
