Don’t have a meltdown, but The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail TV show is ending after its upcoming third season on Comedy Central. Jonah Ray and Kumail Nanjiani announced they are ending their live show on their website, leaving The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail effectively cancelled.
Comedy Central says the third and final season of The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail premieres on Comedy Central, “Tuesday, September 27, at midnight.” Technically, that is Wednesday, September 28 at 12:01 am. The show is executive produced by Ray, Nanjiani, live show producer Emily V. Gordon, and Red Hour’s Ben Stiller, Stuart Cornfeld, Debbie Liebling and Mike Rosenstein.
Hosted by Ray and Nanjiani, Comedy Central says, “…the weekly half-hour series is an inside look at what has been Los Angeles’ hottest live stand-up comedy show for four years, consistently drawing some of the biggest names around.” The Meltdown has featured comics from Jim Gaffigan, Weird Al Yankovic, Garfunkel and Oates, Nick Offerman, Marc Maron, Maria Bamford, Chris Hardwick, and more.
“As the live show is coming to an end, we’ve mutually agreed to make this the third and final season of The Meltdown With Jonah And Kumail. We look forward to working with Jonah, Kumail and Emily on future projects,” Comedy Central said in a statement.
Ray and Nanjiani are ending their live show, which is filmed and then airs on Comedy Central. The following announcement mostly concentrates on the live show, which is why they talk about six years, rather than three, etc. From TheMeltdownShow.com:
The Sun is Setting on The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail
After six years of putting our blood, sweat, and urine into a live show every Wednesday, we have decided that it’s time to hang up our spurs on The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail. When we started this thing in 2010, we only wanted a fun place to do comedy and hang out with our friends.
And things were so different- The tech area was in the middle of the room! There was even less air conditioning than now!
We never imagined how much we’d get out of this experience- we’ve gotten ridiculous memories, we’ve gotten three seasons of a TV show on Comedy Central, and we’ve gotten the best damn audience on the planet. Putting on a weekly show for your wonderful faces has been an honor, and we love you all indefinitely. We love the regulars, we love the newbies, we love the people who bring their parents. Comedians around the country speak of our audience with awe and admiration. We have been spoiled by you. We know it.
So while we are sad to end the show after six years, it just feels like the right time for us. We know we’re going to feel absolutely awful that first Wednesday that we aren’t high-fiving you into the room, but everything has to come to an end at some point. [Read more at TheMeltdownShow.com]
