Missing: ABC Series Cancelled; No Season Two

Missing on ABC canceled, no season 2Becca Winstone’s chase is over. ABC has cancelled Missing, their Thursday night TV series, after one season and 10 episodes.

Starring Ashley Judd, Missing follows a former CIA Agent turned single mom as she searches for her missing son in Europe. The action show also stars Adriano Giannini, Nick Eversman, Cliff Curtis, Tereza Voriskova, and Sean Bean.

Missing got off to a disappointing start on March 15th, registering a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.60 million viewers. It was in third place for the demo and second place in total viewership.

In week two, the numbers took a significant drop, to a 1.6 rating with 8.81 million. Over the next several weeks, Missing fell lower and lower. The most recent episode hit a new low with a 1.1 demo rating and 6.37 million total viewers.

How long should Missing have run?

Overall, Missing’s been averaging a 1.5 rating with 7.70 million viewers. If they had more episodes in the season, those averages would surely keep sinking lower.

On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo success of TV shows on the network, Missing has a “D-” for a grade. Of the 22 scripted shows on the network this season, Missing ranks 21st — just above the already-cancelled Charlie’s Angels remake.

With low ratings and steep declines, it’s no wonder that ABC decided not to renew Missing for a second season.

The series finale airs next Thursday and will hopefully include enough closure to satisfy the viewers that stuck with it.

What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Missing has been cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed? How long should have the show realistically lasted — one season, two, three or more?

I loved MISSING and have been waiting for it to come back on. Ashley Judd was wonderful in it and the sceenery was beautiful. A hugh loss for ABC. I’m like the other people with comments, too many dumb shows out there that I do not and won’t watch. You give us MISSING then take it away. One of the problems was they kept switching days and times if I remember correctly because I had to look for it, it wasn’t on at same time every week. Our loss ABC.

My husband and I really enjoyed this show. I just checked to see when it was coming on again and can’t believe they cancelled it. I heard the Killing is coming back. Maybe someone can get Missing to come back.

I am very disappointed that “Missing” was cancelled. I have been looking for it for months. I think that Miss Judd did a wonderful job and that it was a good seriies in a bad spot. Just my opinion.

I too wish the show would continue. One of the better shows I watched. Sure beats a lot of the stupid reality shows (bachelor, housewives of some stupid city, etc.) that seem to dominate the airwaves and they continue to be renewed. I guess that says something about our society. Ashley Judd is not only incredibly attractive, she is an excellent actress!

I only watch 2 series on ABC-Missing & Shark Tank-Now ABC has lost 1/2 my viewership. Missing was way better than all the other crap they air. No wonder they are not #1.

THIS WAS THE BEST SHOW ABC HAS TURNED OUT IN A LONG TIME! Its a shame they cancelled it. I started watching the program and stopped after the third show and decided to wait for it to come out on DVD. I was so frustrated and annoyed by the amount of commercials running during the program. You watched maybe ten minutes of the show and it was already going to commercial break. I sat there and counted the amount of commercials during the breaks and at one point I counted 18 of them. THIS IS WHAT KILLED THE SHOW…..THE CONSTANT COMMERCIAL BREAKS. Then ABC has the nerve, after they strung the audience along, to cancel the program without giving it closure. The least they could have done out of respect for their faithful audience was to make a TV movie that brought the program to a satisfactory finale. All those crappy programs out their that they air….they seem to be able to bring the program to a satisfactory end when they take it off the air. ABC seems to be getting worse and worse each year. THEY REALLY SUCK ASS!!

We really liked the show. Good for the “Entire” family. Guess the suits wanted a show with more violence and a flippin stronger sexual content! They seem to forget when there a child, watching TV with the entire family and everyone had their favorite person to like. Now, what show is there that leaves everyone guessing and waiting for next week with young adults and tween?

Missing is by far one of the greatest shows ABC has put out. I stopped watching the program after the third show and decided to wait until it came out on disc. I believe the reason for this show’s demise was the amount of commercials that aired during the show. I would sit there and count the commercials every break. At one point I counted 24 if them. It was frustrating and annoying to watch about 10 minutes of a show, if that long, and jump to commercial break again. This show was GREAT! It had it all, suspense, mystery, espionage, romance….I mean everything. For the writers/producers to let a show go out this way WITH NO CLOSURE is unforgiveable. If you don’t want to renew the show, then at least make a movie and bring closure to the show. Its the least the powers at be can do after stringing an audience along the way they did. Even the crappiest programs out there are brought to a close with a final season. ABC SUCKS ASS!!!!
