Moonlight: CBS Cancels Vampire Drama, No Season Two

MoonlightThough things were looking good for a second season of CBS’ vampire show, Moonlight has been cancelled. The show has loyal followers, the ratings were decent, and the series often won its timeslot. What happened?

Essentially Moonlight has been cut for a number of reasons. The rest of the network’s schedule is quite strong in the ratings and it certainly makes no sense to cancel one of the stronger series. If Moonlight were on the ratings-challenged CW, it certainly would have been renewed.

Like Jericho last season, Moonlight has a devout but small audience. Unfortunately, CBS’ decision to resurrect Jericho didn’t work out so well for them. Though many campaigned to get Jericho renewed, fewer people tuned in. CBS likely feels a bit burned by that experience and is reluctant to go down that road again.

The cancellation also stems from the fact that CBS is feeling very confident about their new batch of drama pilots. They’ve given a greenlight for four new dramas this fall and there just wasn’t any room left on the schedule for Moonlight. They know that Moonlight’s audience is unlikely to grow very much and would rather take a chance on a new show.

There’s been much upheaval behind-the-scenes and it’s been reported that the network hasn’t been impressed with the show’s creative development. The ratings were also usually lower than both its lead-in (Ghost Whisperer) and lead-out (Numb3rs).

CBS has given the okay for another season of The Unit. With the network’s full schedule, the drama will likely end up being bumped from Tuesdays and end up on Fridays in Moonlight’s old slot.

Moonlight’s series finale is set to air this Friday, May 16th. Stay tuned! TV Series Finale home page

Moonlight was and still is my favorite show to watch. My friends all love it. We use to make a girl’s night just to watch when it was brand new episodes on tv. When we heard that it was being cancled, we were all devistated about it. And that was two years ago. I just recently bought the “Complete Seires” DVD’s. But my friends and I have gotten tired of watching the same episodes. WE WANT NEW ONES!!!!! Not to mention the fact, that Vampires are now in style more than ever before. So if CBS and CW is worried about views, they shouldn’t be. In fact, their viewing rate WILL BE through roof! So, on behalf of my friends, other viewers and myself, would CBS please RECONSIDER BRINGING BACK MOONLIGHT…???

OMG I remember me and my brother were eager to stay up late just to watch the series, and were disappointed when it finihsed. We were both eager for the next series, and I watched it on Youtube many times.

When we found out it was to be cancelled we were so disappointed. Why cant you bring it back? And because of the latest fad of vampire fans, the ratings should go sky high. I guess Twilight was good in a way :)

Just watched a marathon of this series two days ago and was SO EXCITED thinking I had found a great show to watch. Can’t believe this smart, exciting drama with great characters was dropped from CBS. I know this decision was made a while ago, so I don’t expect much from my comment. Funny, the only shows I ever watch on CBS are NCIS and Survivor. I would have never missed Moonlight.

They should at least make a movie now. It needs to be continued in some way. I’m actually surprised the CW didn’t pick it up. It would go hand in hand now with the Vampire Dairies.

I`M PISSED!!!!! I MEAN, I FINALLY FIND SOME NOT-PATHETIC, NON-VIOLENT (well, not too violent) VAMP STUFF, WITH A GREAT STORY, 10/10 CREW, AND THEN SOME WISE-ASS CUTS IT IN 1st SEASON. C`MON!!!!!
This show has something (like X-Files or Friends had in theirs 1st seson) that kept me in front of my PS untill I finished it, and I can`t belive that big bosses can`t see that. Frustrating…

If I had to choose between Twilight and Moonlight, it will be Moonlight ALL THE WAY, because its not as corny, and it is in a language that is for young adults (17,18…ext). I love the action and the story plots. And personally, I think Kandice and Carole are right with the their comments; they should have NOT ended the series like that. COME ON!! You guys had us on edge of our seats (well, at least me , hee hee)!!! YOU DO NOT DO THAT TO VIEWERS!! Its rude. I as a fan, and I know that you had more than enough viewers to keep that show running. Please put it back on with NEW episodes! I want to know what happens with Coraline, Mick and Beth! PLEASE! And I hope Joseph and Sarah will be together- as in Sarah will wake up from that coma. PLESE start making it.

I personally think that with all the new twilight vampire fans that this shows rating an fan collection will go through the roof. But that’s my business perspective. There weren’t too many twilight fans back in 2008 but seeing as True Blood got really good ratings (thanks to Twilight) if they get this show back on the go they will definitly love having it on the air as a 2nd season. They will improve their rating as long as the Moonlight fans spread rumors of how good this show is. If it spreads far enough they could have more fans from the Twilight expansion crowd.

I recently watched the whole Moonlight Series on youtube and purchased the series on dvd. I tried to limit myself to watching one episode a day so it would last but I couldn’t help but watch the next one. I watched the whole series in 5 days. I can’t wait to see it again on dvd. I really want it to come back. There were so many loose ends. The most evident was the list of vampire names that was sent to Talbot. We want to know what happens. And will Beth be turned? Please bring it back! And people are right when they say people love vampires right now. And who couldn’t love those two good looking ones from Moonlight?
