The Deep End: Is Tonight’s the Last Episode of the ABC TV Show?

Matt Long in The Deep EndTonight marks the “season finale” for ABC’s The Deep End. Will the TV show be back next season or will it be cancelled?

The Deep End revolves around five first-year associates who work at a top Los Angeles law firm. It features the talents of Matt Long, Ben Lawson, Tina Majorino, Norbert Leo Butz, Leah Pipes, Billy Zane, Sherri Saum, Clancy Brown, Mehcad Brooks, and Rachelle Lefevre.

The ABC series debuted on January 21st and got off to a very poor start. The first episode attracted just 7.07 million viewers and a terrible 1.8/5 rating/share in the 18-49 demographic. For the timeslot, it was in third place in total viewers and fourth place in the demo.

Subsequent episodes have performed even worse. The five episodes that have aired so far have average 5.65 million viewers and a 1.6 rating. Last week’s installment hit a series low and attracted just 4.26 million viewers and a horrible 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demo.

TV show supportThough seven episodes of this series have been created, ABC only scheduled six of them. Based on the ratings, it’s highly unlikely that the network will ever get around to showing the last episode. It’s also not likely that ABC will consider renewing The Deep End for a second season. Hopefully tonight’s episode won’t leave viewers with any cliffhangers or too many unresolved storylines.

What do you think? Why aren’t more people watching The Deep End? Is there just too much competition on Thursday nights or is it just not a very good show?

I loved this show so much. It inspired me to getting on the road to becoming a lawyer. I’ve been waiting for the second season for so long now. You can’t just leave a show ending like that, it just isn’t fair for the people who really enjoyed watching it. ABC has more than enough money, does it really matter that much to you guys? Please, I’ve already had Pushing Daisies taken away from me, not the Deep End now too.

I loved the show and am very disappointed it has been cancelled. I’m starting to think I am in the extreme minority when it comes to TV shows. Every one I love gets cancelled. I thought The Deep End was great. I loved Raising the Bar. The Practice. What is it about TV shows that are entertaining rather than a drama show about someone’s real life? I just don’e get it.

I loved the show. I hope they bring it back but PLEASE, a different day/time!!! That’s my only reason for solely watching online.

I too liked `The Deep End’. What I don’t understand is why cancel a good show like this, and then repeat shows already played that week on Saturday night? Give these shows they cancel a fighting chance.

This was a great show!! My sister and I were already addicted. We couldn’t figure out what happened. Did we set our DVR wrong and another program took priority? Did we accidentally not record it? Did it move to another night? Nope, cancelled. How disappointing! I allow myself very little TV time and this show made it to my list. I hope they try it on another night or time or something and bring it back.

I am very sad to see this show go. I got hooked! There was ALOT of competition on Thursdays nights. But I have a DVR so I just record all the shows. I definitely think they should bring it back!!!

I LOVED this show. I think the reason it has poor ratings is only because it has alot of competition on Thursdays and it wasn’t promoted enough. I am extremely disappointed to see it go.

After seeing the first episode of this show I was unsure whether or not I liked it, but I watched the second anyway, I continued to watch the remaining of the aired episodes, (which I loved). I am very dissapointed the show is no longer airing, because not only did it have potential for more viewers, but potential for more ratings. Most people have a turn off switch when it comes to legal shows, this might be why they’re was not enough of an initial interest. I loved it, I found it to be almost like a legal cross of Grey’s anatomy and The West WIng. Sarcastic Humor is one of my favorites, which is one reason I loved this show so much. Sad to see you go.
