After four years on the air, ABC has decided to pull the plug on Ugly Betty. There won’t be a fifth season but will longtime fans get a true series finale?
Ugly Betty debuted in 2006 and follows young Betty Suarez (America Ferrera) as she navigates her way through the world of high-fashion, working at the trendy magazine Mode. Others in the cast include Eric Mabius, Tony Plana, Ana Ortiz, Becki Newton, Mark Indelicato, Michael Urie, Vanessa Williams, and Ashley Jensen.
After being a modest hit for its first two seasons, the series’ viewership dropped to an average of eight million viewers and a 2.8 rating in the 18-49 demo last year. That would usually put a series “on the bubble” but ABC gave it an early renewal. It was pretty clear that the network wanted to try to keep it going to accumulate more episodes for the syndication package.

The network assigned the series to a Friday night timeslot this season, hoping that the loyal fans would follow it there. Not many did. After cancelling Eastwick, they moved Ugly Betty to a better slot, on Wednesday nights. The ratings haven’t been very good there either.
The show’s fate seemed essentially sealed by Ugly Betty’s syndication deal. While episodes of The Mentalist and NCIS: Los Angeles sold for about $2.2 million each in syndication, Ugly Betty episodes have been licensed to the TV Guide Network for “a low six figures.”
Today, the network and production team made a joint statement, saying, “We’ve mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty’s final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion. We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell.”

i was watching the final season without realizing that it is the end. by the time i finished the whole season, i just realized that every characters have happy ending..omg, that is the calling card for the final season. I’m so sad. It was hurting to see a such a talent and funny show got cancel. I love it from the start to finish of Ugly Betty. Please come back, I’m wait a whole year just to watch a whole season all together. I don’t want it to end, I love it too much. the show give me a sinfully enjoyment. I love Mark, Mandy,Willy , Betty and her crazy over the top sister Hilda and her son….omg, this is my guilty pleasure, pleaes don’t end

That was one of the best shows recently. Amazing characters, cute and so real. I totally don’t understand why they cancelled it. They are running much worse shows than Betty that don’t get cancelled. Well…don’t think we can do anything about it.

ok so this is so not fair to the viewers of this show because maybe they should put in on the different channel and maybe bring it back abc is not the best channel and NCIS los angeles sucks its to repetitive and annoying their cases are always the same there are bunch of the series the same as NCIS because the best of all of them are Bones, and Cold Case files thats all the other ones are the same stories over and over again. They should BRING UGLY BETTY BACK. I didn`t even know there was a show Ugly Betty till it was a marathon in channel 97 its the schedule of the shows on tv.!!!!!

I am from South Africa – on our TV Channels we only got the 1st season – but my family
and I have brought from season 1 – 3 am now waiting for season 4 – its one of the
most amazing tv series – its real – its about normal people making there way out there
- you can relate to one of the charators in the series – Its sad that its been cancelled.
We in South Africa – like programmes like that – real people – relates to real life.
so it was popular here .
