ABC gave 666 Park Avenue a lot of promotion leading into the fall season. Has it paid off? Is the new show a ratings success or is it in danger of being cancelled instead?
If you haven’t seen it, 666 Park Avenue follows a Midwest couple who’ve moved to New York City and end up managing The Drake, a prestigious residential hotel. They feel like they’re living their dream lives — until they realize that every dream comes with a price. The TV series features the talents of Terry O’Quinn, Vanessa Williams, Dave Annable, Rachael Taylor, Robert Buckley, Mercedes Masöhn, Helena Mattsson, Samantha Logan, and Erik Palladino.
The show debuted on September 30th, in ABC’s troubled Sundays at 10pm timeslot (see: Pan Am, GCB). The premiere’s ratings weren’t very impressive, attracting a mediocre 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.9 million total viewers. That was 30% lower than what Pan Am had registered last fall — and we all know what happened to that show.

Unfortunately, Park Avenue’s numbers have gotten even worse since the debut. The coveted demographic dropped to a 1.7 rating in week two (down 19%) and a 1.5 rating in week three (down another 12%). The ratings perked up a bit in weeks four (a 1.7 rating) and five (a 1.6 rating) but are still terrible.
A couple weeks ago, ABC ordered two more scripts for Park Avenue, likely to give the network execs some extra time to continue watching the ratings and then determine the show’s fate. If they were hoping for growth, they were disappointed.
ABC initially ordered 13 episodes of Park Avenue. They could put some more into production but that seems unlikely given the ratings. We’re heading into the holiday season so the show will probably be pre-empted and that will likely hurt the numbers even more.
For whatever reason, this one just hasn’t resonated with a large audience. At this point, unless the ratings start getting better, it looks like 666 Park Avenue is doomed to be cancelled.
But, what do you think? Do you like the TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for another season? Could anything be done to attract more viewers or is it already too late?
I can’t believe that this show has been cancelled! ABC is making a mistake. Just when you find entertainment that is different and interesting to follow they back out of it. Just like Last Resort. Quality programming but AWFUL time slot. Whoever is in charge of programming at ABC needs to get with it! There are a lot of people who want dramas and not just reality tv or comedy. I really wish they would take another look at both of these shows!!!!
I absolutely LOVE 666 Park Ave!! I think it would be a HUGE mistake to cancel the show. Now that the holidays are over, I am sure that the ratings will rise. People will be inside, watching tv. When I saw that 666 Park Ave. wasnt on tonight (1/6/13), I almost cried! Please, please, please don’t cancel my favorite show!!
I was wondering what happened to the show. I was starting to get hooked on it and all of a sudden it was gone. It’s just not fair. I’d like to see it come back.

ABC is making a big mistake with 666, its different (in a good way) from all the reality nonsense shows out there, who cares who can sing, dance or catch a live shark in there bare hands, this program has alot going for it , good plot, likeable characters, suspense

I can’t believe you are thinking of canceling this show, it is Soooo!!! awesome., you can’t do that,, it is just what is needed, it’s exciting and a bit creepy, what an awesome combination. everyone is soooo good in their parts, it leaves sooo much to the imagination, love it., it definitely needs to run longer. I can’t believe 666 Park Ave. has been cancelled. The show has drama, suspense, horror and romance. The badly between good and evil. One of the best shows that was on TV in a long time. Unbelievable!!!!!

It’s so nice not to have to watch all that reality crap … this show is an absolute hit
in our family… we debate what will happen week to week …. Keep with the show it

I think you sould keep it. If you cancel the show it would be the biggest mistake ABC will ever make. Please dont cancel the show! I look forward to seeing the show every week. It is a really really awesome show! There is other shows that have less views and they still run so what is up with trying to take 666 park ave away? i really like this show. the problem is the time slot. it comes on after “the walking dead” on amc. i watch “dead” and then 666 park place, two different kinds of horror. park place seems tame[civilized} after the chaos zombie show . i hope it stays on the air.
please do not cancell this show, i’m tired of watching reality shows. this is a great drama!

Is ABC completely NUTS???? 666 Park Avenue is the best show I have seen in years….Cancel it and watch me quit watching anything on ABC! I am so tired of the good shows being cancelled and the bad ones drag on and on and on. I didn’t even know about this show until my boss told me about it, so I went back and watched all three that had been shown on demand…by that time, I was hooked!! Can’t wait to see what happens next every week..Please do not cancel this show!!
I agree, I am sooo sick of reality TV, it has become soo boring I hardly watch TV, but as soon as I discovered this show, I watched it faithfully and back watched on demand as well, all it took was 1 episode to hook me and many of my friends. I love this show, with all of the junk on television (Kardashians, The bachelorette, junk after junk after mess) when an adult program comes on they dont give the program a chance to find an audience, because people have so many choices these days they are not sitting down to watch every program they are putting it on their DVR and tuning in later.I would like the program to stay.

I know right i dont watch tv much and when i do i get into a show like 666 park ave and they go and cancel it like this. It is just not right at all. If they do cancel i am going to stop watching tv all together. Whats the point they just go and cancel all the good shows.
