Following the ratings success of The Bible mini-series on History, NBC ordered a sequel — AD: The Bible Continues. Has this mini-series been the answer to the network’s prayers? Will they want a second season?
Produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, AD: The Bible Continues tells the tale of the later chapters of biblical history (following the Crucifixion of Christ). It focuses on the disciples who had to go forward and spread the teachings of Christ to a world dominated by political unrest. The cast includes Juan Pablo Di Pace, Adam Levy, Richard Coyle, Vincent Regan, Greta Scacchi, Babou Ceesay, Chipo Chung, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jodhi May, Joanne Whalley, Ken Bones, Kevin Doyle, Helen Daniels, and Fraser Ayers.
The series debuted on April 5th to a respectable 2.33 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.68 million viewers. Unfortunately, the numbers saw severe drops in weeks two (falling 28%) and three (falling 31%) and the rating have kept coming down nearly every week. AD has hit series lows of a 0.7 rating in the demo and little more than four million viewers.
Though this was billed as a mini-series, the producers have said that their writers have been working on scripting season two. Just in case the network wants a second season, they need the additional lead time to have episodes ready for next Easter.
Still, based on the ratings, there doesn’t seem to be much reason for NBC to order a second season of AD. They could make the show an annual event but the audience numbers really aren’t big enough for a network.
Burnett and Downey could however choose to take the project back to cable where The Bible was a big success for them. That also did very well with DVD sales. In today’s ever-shifting marketplace, they could find enough outlets to keep producing Bible-based series for years to come without being on a network.
What do you think? Would you like to see a second season of AD: The Bible Continues on NBC? Would you watch it elsewhere?
7/3 update: NBC has cancelled the series. They won’t air a second season but…
Please allow a second season. This series has touched my heart, my soul and spirit. This is a dying world and they need this avenue from this series to help bring His Word. The series was Awesome. Five stars to every actor and anyone who had a part in this production.
My favorite actors are Adam Levy as Peter and Chipo Chung as Mary.
My best to you all.
I would love to see season 2 and the rest of the bible chapters
I am very disappointed to hear that 2nd season is cancelled.
I hope they reconsider.
Brilliant! Love watching the show. Hope there is a second season.
Very insightful.
The series is great and found it very entertaining. I had minimal understanding in the books of acts but the series gives its life. We are hoping to see more. In behalf of Christians spread the gospel and truly you will be blessed more.
I think it was the best Bible story TV show it made me cry it was so great I learned so much from this TV show better than being in school and learn I really would like to have his back I talk about this all the time I can’t believe that you would take it off you didn’t give it a second chance give it a chance it please it was a great show it deserves a second chance
yes i think they should have another season love the show have both of them on dvd abc started a series about David but only shown two episodes it seems like Jesus and God can’t make it on the main network the the devil can hmmmm!
I really want to see AD The Bibles Continues be renewed. There is a big need for these kind of programs in the continous morally declining movie and TV programs. Plus I just really liked watching the bible stories coming to life. Praise God and give him all the glory!!
Please continue on with these series I loved them I purchased the Bible and A.D bible continues and hated when it ended I will purchase the next when it comes out. I can’t get enough please continue on telling Gods story this world needs more movies like these!
Just watched the AD the bible continues on dvd. Could not stop watching the series, went through all 12 episodes in two nights and was so dissapointed when there were no more episodes to watch. It is an amazing production NBC have made here, it’s incredible exiting, the Book of Acts truely comes alive. My 3 kids love it as well, the educational and historical value as well as the spiritual is incredible! Please, please, please prepare and produce a 2nd season!!!!! Thanks a million!
Amen
Well I see AD bible continues not on, no season 2, I been searching through the channels and do not see it on, How disappointing!! was looking forward to season two!! so sad!!
This is what we need on TV. NBC needs to stop being so far left!! You never gave the show a far shot. Remember Touch By A Angel, it to started out the way but ABC let show do the work. And it did. Come on NBC give it a chance!!!…. And ABC’s TBA show was on at the right time 7:pm on Sunday’s.
Please keep the series going. We were really looking forward to Season 2. Such a big disappointment. We will watch on any media outlet. NBC, Netflix or DVD it doesn’t matter! We did buy the DVD’ s by the way. Darn we were really looking forward to the 2nd Season. We own the original manuscript, but seeing it come alive in living color . . . Well it was amazing and such quality. Don’t give up , God will make a way, He always does!
Amen
I so enjoyed season one of the Bible. I found it on Netflix. It brings those beautiful stories to life. I would love season 2. Cant you make it for Netflix only? I know they have other shows that can only be viewed on netflix. Our time needs shows like these.
Blessings
