Although TNT has carried Turner’s drama banner for a while, in the last year or so, they’ve tried to reposition it as the home for edgier content, even going so far as to cancel Major Crimes — its best Nielsen ratings performer. Is The Alienist — a Gilded Age period mystery — a good fit with the cable network’s grittier focus? Since it features a serial killer, does that mean it fills the bill? Will The Alienist be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
Based on the Caleb Carr novel, The Alienist TV show stars Daniel Brühl, Luke Evans, Dakota Fanning, Brian Geraghty, Douglas Smith, Matthew Shear, Matt Lintz, Robert Ray Wisdom, and Q’orianka Kilcher. Set in 1896 in New York City, the TNT drama centers on Laszlo Kreizler (Brühl), an alienist, i.e. a criminal psychologist. When a ritualistic serial killer starts targeting boy prostitutes, Police Commissioner Teddy Roosevelt (Geraghty) drafts Kreizler to head up his secret investigation into the murders.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.

From Day 1 I have advocated for a 2nd 3rd 4th season……………PLEASE DO. I literally had to watch it all in one sitting – even after I watched it each one the first time it came out!
Please renew The Alienist!
Best new show in decades! Always kept you on the edge of your seat, great story details. Wonderful character development. The period piece was done expertly in every detail. The costumes and set decor fabulous!!!
It’s must see TV for me!!
Please make another season. I love this period of time in America’s history. Civil war veterans are still alive and are suffering from the first recorded cases of PTSD in America. Such an interesting show.
Love, love this series “Aleinist”. Surperly written in all the cataogies. Our entire family is emersed !!!
Love, love this series “Alienist”. Superb in all the categories of well written drama series. Our entire family is emersed!!
The ratings are good enough for the show to get another season. Let’s see what happens.
I agree with my fellow watchers. Not only is it a well written show, but the actor’s play their roll with such realism, like most of us who, at one point or another, have been broken. The Cinematography is second to non. If you look closely you will see scenes that look like they came right out of a painting from that era.
It is so hard to find exceptional shows that have so much to offer, like this one.
It truly would be a sin to cancel.
I’m a criminology major so law enforcement has always been an interest of mine. This show truly is amazing in the respect that it shows how law enforcement worked during the turn of the century. I relate because law enforcement is again going through a turn of the century the 20s are repeating itself. There needs to a season 2.
Loved the series, really looked forward to it each week. It was a smartly written, very well acted and sucked me in more & more as each week passed.
It made you care about the characters who were trying multible ways to solve the crime. Reminded me of another well acted drama during the same time period in New York, Peeky Blinders. BRAVO! Please renew.
I really like this show. Bring it back !!!
