It’s the nightmare NBC’s Awake fans were dreading. NBC has cancelled the show after 13 episodes and one season.
Created by Kyle Killen (Lone Star), Awake revolves around a police detective (Jason Isaacs) who, after being in a horrific car accident, finds that he’s living in two realities. In one, his son perished — in the other, his wife did. The cast also includes Laura Allen, Steve Harris, Dylan Minnette, B. D. Wong, Michaela McManus, Wilmer Valderrama, and Cherry Jones.
The complex drama had an unimpressive debut back on March 1st, registering a 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.24 million viewers. NBC had released the pilot episode well in advance so some believed that hurt the premiere ratings.

Theoretically the second episode should have shown signs of growth but it didn’t. Week two dropped 20%. Week three remained stable but subsequent weeks saw additional declines. Last week’s episode hit a new low with a dismal 0.7 rating and just 2.15 million viewers.
This season has averaged a 1.1 rating in the demographic with 3.5 million total viewers. Awake is the third-lowest rated drama on the network, beating only Harry’s Law and The Firm (both of which have been cancelled as well). On our NBC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo performance of shows on the network, Awake has a “D+” grade.
NBC has now cancelled Awake and the series finale is on track to air Thursday, May 24th. While it wasn’t intended as a series finale, Killen has said that he believes the finale is very satisfying.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Awake has been cancelled and won’t be back for a second season? Was the series too complicated for most TV viewers or did it have other problems?

I am outraged! This show was awesome and I was looking forward to t
Watching it next season after the finale…NBC is ridiculous and I won’t be watching them anymore unless they RENEW this show
So sad that Awake won’t be renewed. I found the plots intriguing and interesting. What I also find intriguing are the low ratings. I find that so many shows that I like are cancelled. And ones that are not worth watching, continue on and on. Too bad.
I am very sad that this show was cancelled. This show was very interesting. A refreshing change. It had me thinking and just when it was coming together, it gets cancelled. Thanks NBC!!!!
This intelligently written, complex show made me work a litte and made me think–two things that, sadly, most TV viewers resist doing. They would rather sit back, slack jawed, and watch pathetic people on reality shows, embarrassing themselves, trying to achieve momentary fame. How sad.
Keep me alive! I dont want to be cancelled. Plus my wife is hot. So, is my little Rex’s tennis coach. You wanna see all that go away?
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!! PLEASE GOD NO! THIS IS SO SAD! I LOVE THAT SHOW!!!
I, like many others, can not believe AWAKE is being cancelled.
This is the only show I watch on NBC.
Now I do not have a reason to watch anything else…your loss,
I am a “tv holic”.
I hope another network takes the show and gives
A second chance… I will be waiting to watch.
I think it’s just fair. The plot device (the double reality) was unconvincing anyway (even for a Lost fan). The rest was just your usual detective stories. Yawn!
what a disappointment this show wont be back. i hate you nbc
I am very disappointed that the ONLY show I watch is now being cancelled! Awake was an A++. We don’t get TV reception anymore, not that that is a loss, except for PBS, so I’d watch Awake on line. It had an interesting and intelligent story line and the acting was very good. Why do all the good shows get canceled? Maybe it starts with our schools…where we’re dumbing the students down, so now all they want to watch is reality T.V. Lovely.
This is a sad testimony to the condition of our society. It amazes me to see shows like CSI and 24 that lasted as long as they did. People aren’t concerned with plot or storyline anymore. If it doesn’t have a bunch of killing or special effects, then it isn’t worth the time. I’m sick of it.
An intelligent, well put together and unique premise, with characters that are worth caring about, and I am so sad that there won’t be another season (or three). I guess that is another reason to NOT watch NBC t.v. I will also miss Harry’s Law. And I just want to say, I will not be watching AGT, that is a joke.
I FIND THIS TO BE BULLS***!!!!!!! I can’t believe it. This show was great and im going to be sad to see it go. And they also cancelled Harry’s Law which is bulls*** too but im more upset about Awake.
As a fan of Awake who religiously watches the show via iTunes so I can keep up, the short sightedness of NBC is hauntingly familiar to what ABC used to do with amazing shows like Twin Peaks. Sheesh – it was incredibly smart, intriguing and a puzzle for people to appreciate. Please – the lowest common-denominator is not the solution. Remember how you worked with Cheers way back when…
REALLY PISSED! Yes, I agree that the 1st several episodes….”One Case Had Nothing to Do with the other” Now that it’s coming together…. YOU CANCEL IT????????????? MEDIUM………. NOW AWAKE?????????????????????????????? what a Joke!
