In late November, the Bones TV series executive producer, Barry Josephson, sued the FOX network and the 20th Century Fox Television studio’s parent company, over alleged profit participation hi-jinx. Stars David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel, and producer Kathy Reichs, followed suit, in less than a week.
Among the allegations: FOX brass threatened Bones would be cancelled, if Josephson refused a lower license fee. Now, Deadline reports FOX has filed to move the issue out of the courts and into arbitration.
Bones is currently on its mid-winter hiatus. Curiously, or not, the second half of the 11th season of Bones was not included in the FOX spring schedule. Whether it is the law suit, or Bones flagging ratings responsible for that, is tough to call.
FOX is scheduled to make its presentations at the TCA winter press tour, on Friday, January 15, 2016. We will be watching to see if FOX schedules the second half of Bones, season 11.
Boreanaz has already said he is leaving Bones at the end of the current season, whether or not it is renewed. Co-star Emily Deschanel has yet to comment on whether she would return for a 12th season of Bones.
Here is more on the FOX request to move the issue from the courts to private arbitration, from Deadline:
Although all the plaintiffs are sure to fight it, Fox wants both cases to be dealt with in private in arbitration. They also are seeking to have all proceedings stayed until their petitions are heard before Judge Richard E. Rico on March 2 and March 14 respectively.
“Having earned millions of dollars in compensation for providing his executive producer services on Defendants’ television series Bones (the “Series”), Barry Josephson brings a series of meritless claims in this Court in a naked attempt to attract headlines and extract millions more in undue compensation,” said caustically said the Fox petition Tuesday. The filing went on to cite provisions in both Josephson’s signed 2004 agreement and 2009 release that spelled out arbitration as the agreed upon method of conflict resolution between the parties if such a need should arise – as it has here.
“Although Plaintiffs are allegedly seeking to enforce the provisions of their contracts with Defendants, these Plaintiffs, like Josephson, blatantly ignored key dispute resolution provisions of the very contracts at issue – the provisions that clearly establish arbitration as the appropriate forum for deciding such claims. And, for the same reasons that this Court should grant the petition in the related action, it should grant this petition as well,” adds the petition aimed at Deschanel and Boreanez, who both serve as producers on Bones, and Reichs […]
Are you a fan of the Bones TV show? Would you tune in for a 12th season of Bones, even without David Boreanaz? Do you think Bones should be cancelled or renewed? Sound off, in the comments.
I would continue to watch the show next year even without Booth.
I am an avid watcher and fan of the show. I also prefer there be no cast changes, however, I will continue to watch as long as possible. This is a fantastic, enticing, enjoyable family show. One of a few remaining shows of quality that can truly appeal to a variety of people. Thank you so much for so many great seasons of entertainment.
I love the show and will watch it for as long as it’s on xx
Since I only started watching Bones several seasons ago, I would prefer both stars remain. Then plan a reliable pleasant ending. This will benefit the stars and the audience.
I’d watch it with or without “Booth.” It would be 40 million times better if they stopped moving the day around. At least if it gets another season it doesn’t have to compete with the atrocity of American Idol. Thank goodness for Hulu so I can stream it without commercials.
Yes l would still watch it. You. Could always send him o assignment
I would watch! Not sure how they are going to “kill off” David Boreanaz! Love the show
Go ahead and cancel it this season, but for Pete’s sake, give us some closure. After 10 1/2 seasons, we are invested in this show and its characters. You leave us with a cliffhanger and then nothing? It’s just incredulous.
If David Boreanaz leaves I would watch a few of the episodes without him to see if I like it without him and then make my decision, but with Booth and Bones being a couple and the first main characters I’m not sure how well that would go. I agree with Laura C.I like Daisy but I DO NOT like Jessica. The problem though with Booth being gone is Booth, Bones, Angela, Hodgens,Cam they are the original main characters and I didn’t like it when Zach left and then Sweets left. Him getting killed off was just as bad, maybe… Read more »
I sure hope they do not cancel bones I’ve watched every episode and just love it if they’re going to finish it did it needs to have a proper wrapping up so please do not cancel it before that happens
I will watch it to the end. Hopefully no too soon. I love Booth but if he leaves I would still watch it. The cast is wonderful. Really miss Sweets and Zack.
t
I will watch Bones for as long as it is on, been watching since Day One. I would miss Booth but that wouldn’t keep me from watching. I want to see Brennan, Max, Angela, Hodgins, Cam, Aristoo, Wendell, Finn, Fisher. I even like the subdued Daisy. I do NOT like Jessica. I still miss Sweets, and Zack.
Time to wrap it up.
I would continue to watch it no matter how many seasons it goes.
Just wanted to say that David Boreanaz has not publicly stated he I would definitely not returning to Bones gets a season 12.
