In a somewhat surprising move, the alphabet network has cut a beloved family drama after five seasons on the air. Season six of Brothers & Sisters won’t be on ABC’s fall schedule.
Brothers & Sisters debuted in 2006 and revolves around the extended Walker family of Pasadena, California. The current season features a large ensemble cast that includes Calista Flockhart, Dave Annable, Gilles Marini, Luke Macfarlane, Matthew Rhys, Patricia Wettig, Rachel Griffiths, Ron Rifkin, and Sally Field.
The family drama was nearly cancelled last year but was ultimately renewed for an abbreviated fifth season. In light of some positive ratings, ABC ordered additional episodes, bringing the season total to 22 installments. Unfortunately, those ratings didn’t last.

The numbers slowly declined over the course of the season but really seemed to take a dip in the latter part of the season, just when execs were trying to figure out if it was worth renewing. Rumors started circulating that Brothers & Sisters would be cancelled and then there was word that ABC was considering an abbreviated sixth season to wrap things up.
In the end, network execs decided there just wasn’t enough interest in the show anymore and wanted to use the post-Desperate Housewives timeslot for a new series.
As a result, last Sunday’s season finale will end up being the series finale for Brothers & Sisters. It’s a sad and unfortunate end for a once popular series.

I can believe ABC. this show was definitely my favorite, I felt at times like I was apart of the family. Very sad to hear you cancelled this show!
Yes I am very sad this program is ending. The last episode warmed my heart…the joy of family,togetherness and support of each other. I loved this show and watched every week. It was well acted and real . Please bring this wonderful program back!
My sister just told brothers and sisters was cancelled and I AM IN SHOCK!!!! it was BY FAR one of my favorite shows and one that my husband would actually watch with me!! still so much storyline, and it was really getting good!!

Why why why! It was such a great show, that had so many realistic elements of life! Bad move ABC….I’ll bet you’re gonna renew WIPEOUT! YUCK!
Horrible decision ABC. I just started watching brothers and sisters in January and loved this show. Seasons 1-4 were great! Season 5 lacked a bit until the last 4 episodes when it was beginning to get more interesting. You needed Holly, Rebecca, and Kitty to have stronger roles. ABC has just lost a viewer for their other shows because of this move.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME????? ABC made a HUGE mistake canceling one of the best shows out there!!!!! I am extremely disappointed!!!!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this show!!!!!!!!!! Incredibly cast, wonderful stories!!! What a travesty!!!
BEST show on TV! Big mistake to cancel. There is no way that if you were a fan of the show, you just stopped watching. The show was compelling and witty, entertaining and full of future potential.
Brothers and Sisters was my antidote to Desperate Housewives! Why do the nice shows always get cancelled!
I really enjoyed the show and never missed an episode. I can understand how many viewers may have lost interest due to the many breaks over the last couple of seasons. I think viewers need a few favorite shows they can look forward to and follow each week – not every other week, or month, or whenever. I believe the breaks caused many loyal viewers to find another drama to follow just to satisfy the need for something to look forward to and count on being there every week.
yeah ABC screwed it up again…….just add another reality show to the line up…good job ABC….NOT!
My 11yr. old daughter and I loved to watch the show together. We too feel so saddened that the show has ended. That was the one night I’d let her stay up late to watch tv. My family goes through the exact same issues and we felt so connected to the characters. I cried at the end of the episode watching Nora Walker narrate her life with her family. It was bittersweet. We new the ending was upon us. : (
I am very upset to hear that there will be no more Brothers and Sisters. I watch this religiously every Sunday. I wish ABC would reconsider.
Brothers and Sisters was my favorite show. Housewifes is so stupid and you keep that show on the air. Brothers and Sisters was real life issues that people can relate to. Of course the rates will drop when the show isn’t on for weeks at a time. For those of us that don’t like football guess we will have a boring Sunday night. ABC you just lost me as a viewer.

This was one of my favorite shows!!! It’s sad that they ended right in the middle of so much going on!!! Looks like they would have allowed them to do a final show!!! Geez!!!
