In a somewhat surprising move, the alphabet network has cut a beloved family drama after five seasons on the air. Season six of Brothers & Sisters won’t be on ABC’s fall schedule.
Brothers & Sisters debuted in 2006 and revolves around the extended Walker family of Pasadena, California. The current season features a large ensemble cast that includes Calista Flockhart, Dave Annable, Gilles Marini, Luke Macfarlane, Matthew Rhys, Patricia Wettig, Rachel Griffiths, Ron Rifkin, and Sally Field.
The family drama was nearly cancelled last year but was ultimately renewed for an abbreviated fifth season. In light of some positive ratings, ABC ordered additional episodes, bringing the season total to 22 installments. Unfortunately, those ratings didn’t last.

The numbers slowly declined over the course of the season but really seemed to take a dip in the latter part of the season, just when execs were trying to figure out if it was worth renewing. Rumors started circulating that Brothers & Sisters would be cancelled and then there was word that ABC was considering an abbreviated sixth season to wrap things up.
In the end, network execs decided there just wasn’t enough interest in the show anymore and wanted to use the post-Desperate Housewives timeslot for a new series.
As a result, last Sunday’s season finale will end up being the series finale for Brothers & Sisters. It’s a sad and unfortunate end for a once popular series.

This is annoying. Brother’s and Sisters is one of the few shows enjoyable to watch that isn’t a detective or reality show. It was just a good family drama. Not many left, Television seems to progressively get more dark or stupid year after year. Wake up networks, you are losing!!!!!
I am outraged at the cancellation of one of the greatest shows ever on television. This will be a huge loss for the viewing public.
I don’t watch much TV as most of it is garbage. Then I finally find a show I love to watch and now you, ABC, decide to cancel. What a wonderful show and will be a huge loss. YOU, ABC NEED TO RETHINK YOURSELF. ANYTHING you replace this show with will fail.
What a disappointment. Always about the money when cutting shows and adding short-lived destined to be flops. Fine show, finest actors, real issues, and gone. Very sad. I will miss the Walker family dynamics. Thanks for a great run of entertainment!
I am getting so fed up with ABC. They have brought on many great shows and even though it has a great fan base they ditch them. I will not watch any show that ABC has to offer now or any time in the future. They are formally blocked from my television.
I agree, Brothers and Sisters is my favorite of all TV shows. Finally a show that has unexpected story lines, great acting and a lot of real lessons learned. Why do great shows like this get cancelled for stupid programing like the Batchelor? If Castle gets the ax, ABC looses a long time viewer!
I was very disapointed to hear of this wonderful shows cancelation. Brothers & Sisters is one of my favorite shows on tv. My sister & I get together every Sunday to watch this show along with Desparate Housewive’s. It’s a shame that quality TV is being dropped so that low budget reality shows can take there place. On a positive note, I seem to be turning off the TV alot more these days. …… PS….The cast & crew of Brothers & Sidters had a wonderful season finale show. This is my favorite of all the shows I watch on a regular basis! I don’t understand taking it off the air. Hard to believe it doesn’t get good ratings. What a disappointment! There’s too many other crap shows you could have taken off instead.
They canceled it because nobody was watching except you guys.
Very disappointing news. I also believe ABC made a big mistake by cancelling Brothers and Sisters. Their rating system stinks, as far as I’m concerned. There’s so much garbage on TV these days, it was refreshing to have something to look forward to on Sunday night that was worth watching!

This is ridiculous, they cancel great shows and keep adding more stupid so called reality shows.
This is very disappointing to hear that Brothers and Sisters was cancelled. I loved this show and looked forward to Sunday nights. I would much rather see Desp. Housewives off the air then Brothers and Sisters. This show was great and I think ABC made a mistake!
The cancellation of this show is an outrage. There are numerous shows that should be cancelled, but that is not one of them.The fact that there isnt going to even be a proper send off is concerning. I am unsure why this decision was made, especially since we keep reality shows on the air for so long. This is really going to make a lot of people turn away from ABC as a network.
Cancelling this show is very upsetting to me and my family. We watch VERY little TV but really enjoyed Brothers and Sisters. It had a good story line and the actors and actresses assumed their role so well that they almost seemed like friends. It is a shame to drop a show of this caliber. Please bring this show back.
