In a somewhat surprising move, the alphabet network has cut a beloved family drama after five seasons on the air. Season six of Brothers & Sisters won’t be on ABC’s fall schedule.
Brothers & Sisters debuted in 2006 and revolves around the extended Walker family of Pasadena, California. The current season features a large ensemble cast that includes Calista Flockhart, Dave Annable, Gilles Marini, Luke Macfarlane, Matthew Rhys, Patricia Wettig, Rachel Griffiths, Ron Rifkin, and Sally Field.
The family drama was nearly cancelled last year but was ultimately renewed for an abbreviated fifth season. In light of some positive ratings, ABC ordered additional episodes, bringing the season total to 22 installments. Unfortunately, those ratings didn’t last.

The numbers slowly declined over the course of the season but really seemed to take a dip in the latter part of the season, just when execs were trying to figure out if it was worth renewing. Rumors started circulating that Brothers & Sisters would be cancelled and then there was word that ABC was considering an abbreviated sixth season to wrap things up.
In the end, network execs decided there just wasn’t enough interest in the show anymore and wanted to use the post-Desperate Housewives timeslot for a new series.
As a result, last Sunday’s season finale will end up being the series finale for Brothers & Sisters. It’s a sad and unfortunate end for a once popular series.

It is hard to comprehend who in the world is watching all the trash on television. Obviously, the level of intelligence has dropped considerably when good wholesome family shows continue to be axed and shows full of violence, blood and crap can continue. I am so disappointed in ABC, no wonder you lag behind.
I am so disapointed that this show was canceled. It was one of the best Sunday nite shows
you had. I would have not been unhappy if you lost despert housewifes. I only watched this show to pass time until brothers and sisters came on. I got very flustrated when u would not have consistant shows weekly by useing brothers time slot for other shows or extending despert housewifes ( two Hr. ) special . This is what hurt brothers and sisters the most. I am very sad you canceled this.
I adored this show!! Unfortunately, I lacked time to watch it regularly, so after a time I only waited for the DVD of the season to watch it. I am sure many people did the same. I am aware that it’s not helping the ratings. Too bad, it was brilliantly made and played with excellent actors.

For me, this has been the best show on TV for the last 5 years. I cannot even convey how disappointed I am to see another well written show go by the wayside. Not to mention the stellar cast. If this show is replaced by a reality show or a game show I will be beside myself. I wish we could start a write in effort to keep the show on t.v. Facebook anyone? Thank you to Sally Field and the rest of the cast for giving me such good entertainment over the past few years. You will be missed.
This is my favorite show and look so forward every Sunday to watch the latest Walker family trials… Sally Fields is WONDERFUL on this program as is the entire cast! I can’t believe it’s being cancelled! Cancel Desperate Housewives instead!!!!! Stupid stupid decision!!! Don’t take thus show away!!!!!!!!
So sad that Brothers and Sisters is cancelled. I loved the whole family dynamic of this show, it made me laugh and cry. What a shame to replace it with another stupid reality or violent show. Abc should reconsider as this was one of the best shows on their network.
I loved the show when it had a Dallas feel but without money, politics, and a villain (Holly), the show was a bore. I was sick to death of all the gay relationships too. Boooorrrrriiiiinnnnnggggg! Shame on the writers!
Brothers and Sisters was a super good family show. The family was big and diverse; the plots jumped all over the place, but that’s what keep me coming back for more. The message always showed that no matter what –family would be there in the end. In light of today’s doom and gloom, we need more shows like that. I hope another netwrk or cable picks them up. Long live the Walkers.
I am heartbroken. Every episode made me either cry or laugh. I just can’t believe it over I feel like I lost part of my family. I watch desperate housewives too and would have rather had that show end. A major bummer!
So VERY upset with ABC!!! This WAS my favorite station… Actually the ONLY station that was ever really on in my house. Starting with All Cy children and One Life To Live in the afternoon and then watching all the shows that aired in the evening. Brothers and sisters was one of my favorite shows. I doubt that I will be watching any shows airing on ABC after this.. I mean whats the point?? You get involved in a show and then its canceled? Some not even properly ended.. Ill stick to movies!!! ABC Im VERY disappointed in you!!!!
I can’t believe what I just heard,! Brothers and Sisters cancelled!!! What are they thinking? I absolutely loved that show, could not wait each week to see what they were doing. Finally a show about a not so perfect family that was totally entertaining but not disgusting or obscene. I think I’m done with abc!!!!

I loved watching the Family show.I can’t believe they are not coming back on.So disappointed!
I am very upset that they have decided to cancel the show. Worst of all they only gave one hour as a season finale. I wished they would’ve cut Desperate Housewives instead..God knows I have lost all interest in that show and the plots make no sense whatsoever. This was actually one tv show that made sense, one that I looked forward to watching every Sunday. Guess there is no more reason for me to tune in to ABC.
