In a somewhat surprising move, the alphabet network has cut a beloved family drama after five seasons on the air. Season six of Brothers & Sisters won’t be on ABC’s fall schedule.
Brothers & Sisters debuted in 2006 and revolves around the extended Walker family of Pasadena, California. The current season features a large ensemble cast that includes Calista Flockhart, Dave Annable, Gilles Marini, Luke Macfarlane, Matthew Rhys, Patricia Wettig, Rachel Griffiths, Ron Rifkin, and Sally Field.
The family drama was nearly cancelled last year but was ultimately renewed for an abbreviated fifth season. In light of some positive ratings, ABC ordered additional episodes, bringing the season total to 22 installments. Unfortunately, those ratings didn’t last.

The numbers slowly declined over the course of the season but really seemed to take a dip in the latter part of the season, just when execs were trying to figure out if it was worth renewing. Rumors started circulating that Brothers & Sisters would be cancelled and then there was word that ABC was considering an abbreviated sixth season to wrap things up.
In the end, network execs decided there just wasn’t enough interest in the show anymore and wanted to use the post-Desperate Housewives timeslot for a new series.
As a result, last Sunday’s season finale will end up being the series finale for Brothers & Sisters. It’s a sad and unfortunate end for a once popular series.

This is terrible to end the show as it did this season. At least they could come back with a shortened season to come to a good finish
This is complete BS! Ratings my butt! You know that the new show to replace it’s time slot will probably fail anyway. So why bother taking Brothers and Sisters off the air? Atleast it has a lot of viewers already! UGH! So sick of all this cancelling CRAP! Just CRAP!
This was absolutely the best show on the television…for me it was like reading a really good book that you cannot wait to begin reading again when you have to lay it down. I was so wrapped up in the lives of the Walker family…I never missed an episode. I really hope that ABC will rethink their decision to cancel this great show. The acting on this show was superb…they dealt with real life issues in a very sensitive manner. ABC IS JUST PLAIN STUPID FOR CANCELLING BROTHERS AND SISTERS. WHY IS IT THAT EVERY TIME THERE IS SOMETHING GOOD ON TV THE MAJOR NETWORKS CANCEL IT. NO WONDER SO MANY PEOPLE DON’T WATCH THE MAJOR NETWORKS, IF THEY LIKE SOMETHING IT WILL JUST GET CANCELLED.

I am so upset that Brothers and Sisters was cancelled, this was completley unexpected. My husband and I loved that show because it seemed like my family, a real American family. No fairytale endings at the end of every episode, not every issue being resolved within 10 minutes, real life. Television is wildly dominated by “REALITY” tv shows, or the form of reality they want to portray to us. There are no good SHOWS any more, with good actors and this was one of the few left. Big mistake cancelling this one ABC.
I really loved this show and thought the characters were believeable and always interesting. I’m really sorry it is being cancelled, especially without being given a proper finale show. I’m sure it is crazy expensive to pay all those great actors when you can just throw up another reality series with just a series host…….but this show was amazing and will be missed.
I would like to see much more of Brothers and Sisters, because there are many questions unanswered, and issued not dealt with. For one, why are the Walkers so afraid of admitting to and being Jewish? What will happen to Kitty? Will they actually mature into adult behavior or stick to their patterns? Well, maybe they did wrap it up after all.
Once again a good show is cancelled, something those of use with some intelligence like and the mind numbing crap remains. Reality t.v. seems to rule the networks now, give them what they want; the mindless shows continue. I propose a boycott of watching television altogether.
I loved this show! It’s one of the four or five shows I really looked forward to every week. BOOOOO ABC. I love the Walkers.
I think abc has just lost me as a loyal viewer or all their nightly programs . I will not waste my time getting involved with any more of their shows becausenthey do not stand behind their cast members. Canceling brothers and sisters is a wrong move on their part.
This is a real shame. one of the best shows on television. Makes me want to turn the tv off and not bothering with it when quality shows are not removed.
THis was one of the maybe 5 network shows I watched every week. Now it will be back to renting a movie on Sunday night or watching HBO and Showtime series. Despite the commercials every SIX MINUTES that a one hour network show has..I tolerated it since I loved the characters in this show. I would gladly pay a yearly TV tax like they do in England to avoid commercials. Then what would networks do when they actually had to produce a show that was 30 minutes or an hour long??? This absolutely ridiculous! You’re replacing one of THE best shows on television with a knock off version of Mad Men. Really???? Not to mention a show where an out of work dad cross dresses in order to get a drug rep position. What is ABC thinking????
