Episode two was down slightly to a 3.1 in the demographic and 11.67 million viewers. It was in second place for the timeslot and outperformed last year’s episode by 10%. One wonders how much better the show would be doing if Dancing with the Stars was having a better season.

Episode 04-01: Monday, 9/19/11
The drama had a healthy kick-off to the season with a 3.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 13.28 million viewers. Year-to-year, it was up by 19% in the demo (2.7) and 24% in total viewership (10.70 million). It was a close second to the premiere of Hawaii Five-0 on CBS which likely got a boost from the return of Two and a Half Men. This was Castle’s best season premiere and nearly matched the show’s series high record (a 3.3 rating for the season three finale).
Reference point: The 2010-11 season averaged a 2.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 10.67 million viewers.

What do you think? Do you like the Castle TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a fifth season?

I NEED this show! It makes me smile every week cause I love cop shows, I love trying to figure out whodunit, I love the chemistry between the main characters, I love the entire cast and I would hate to have to say goodbye.
I definitely want Castle to continue. It’s one of my favorite shows. I never miss it. I love all the characters and the way they interact with each other, as well as the interesting and clever story lines.
i have enjoyed this show since episode 1 of season 1. i really appreciate them working with hulu.com; it was and still is a lifesaver since i’m on such a tight budget, and can often work late. i would love it to come to the 9:00 slot, but has been really handy coming on at ten here on the east coast; that way i have no distractions. nice!! i enjoy your crew of charactors and actors are just perfect. you have really done well with your casting, but i would like to see something a bit better in plot and… Read more »
I love Castle. Hope this show is not cancelled. Lately every time I like a show it is cancelled. It is getting a little frustrating.
Love Castle. Watching it right now. It’s unique – not copy of anything else currently on air. Love the humor combined with crime solving. All actors are great, including his mother and daughter. Keep it on, please!
Fantastic Show. Keep it going for the 5th season. Gives me a reason to watch regular TV.
KEEP IT GOING!!!
My favourite television series of all time. Keep it going.
Do you really think Lorre is going to forgive and forget. Not likely to much anger there .He probably has copyrite and control over hiring and firing.
Warner Bros.Doesn t want him either,so Charlie Is gone period
Castle is near the top of my favorite shows list. RENEW! Such a fun show it even hooked me into reading the Nikki Heat series!
When is the earliest we would hear about renewal? Do we have to wait to the ABC Upfronts in May?
Rachael » Hard to say. The upfronts will be the latest.
Castle should absolutely be renewed. We need many more shows like this.
I notice that ranking in demo and time slot are beginning to slip. What are the odds of castle being cancelled or renewed if they manage to maintain their position and viewership? The numbers don’t seem as strong as last season and I’m a little concerned. If they are in danger, what kind of improvements in rankings and viewers guarantee a renewal?
Fan » The shows at the top of the rankings are obviously safe, the ones at the bottom are in serious trouble. The middle ground is harder to judge. Castle is actually averaging about what it was doing last season. ABC owns the show so they have a vested interest in keeping it going. If the ratings continue as they are (or improve), I suspect it will get renewed for season five so they’ll have plenty of episodes for the syndication package (TNT already purchased the rights for seasons one and two). Unless things get better, I also think that… Read more »
