Last season, CBS introduced only seven new shows during the regular season. They cancelled three, renewed three, and one (Supergirl) moved to The CW. How will their new programming do in the ratings this time around? Stay tuned.
CBS shows this season (so far): 2 Broke Girls, 48 Hours, 48 Hours: NCIS, 60 Minutes, The Amazing Rice, The Big Bang Theory, Big Brother, Blue Bloods, Bull, Candy Crush, The Case Of, CBSN: On Assignment, Code Black, Criminal Minds, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, Doubt, Elementary, The Great Indoors, Hawaii Five-0, Hunted, Kevin Can Wait, Life in Pieces, MacGyver, Madam Secretary, Man with a Plan, Mom, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, The Odd Couple, Pure Genius, Ransom, Salvation, Scorpion, Superior Donuts, Survivor, Training Day, Undercover Boss and Zoo.
There’s lots of data that CBS execs look at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are typically the biggest piece. Here’s how the network’s shows are doing so far.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here and here.
A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Which shows are you rooting for? Which one isn’t as big a hit as you thought? Are you hoping any series will get cancelled to make way for something else?
Please renew Code Black for a Season 3! The best medical drama on TV! Love Marcia Gay Harden!
I really hope survivor and Amazing Race step up their game. I am serious fans of those shows xD.
It’s about time to cancel 2 Broke Girls. Getting more stupid season after season. Enough of the gross sex jokes and language. Not funny anymore, if it has ever been. No longer watching.
Time to end the silliness.
I am so upset with scorpion…I think the suspense on the love thing between Walter and Paige is killing the mood…I expected something big on the same issue in season 3 but guess what? I am really upset…you guys should probably change the storyline a little for better results. I love SCORPION but I am disappointed at the storyline
Please DO NOT cancel one of my few favorite comedies…”Life in Pieces”. The show & the cast are beyond spectacular. Absolutely adore this show & would be sooo upset if it was not renewed!!!
PLEASE DO NOT cancel “BULL”. I’m so looking forward to a second season as are several of my friends who text one another the entire time while we are watching to discuss the current episode we are watching. It would break our hearts!!!
Isn’t it nice to know that CBS cares about ALL DEMOGRAPHICS? Bull returns at the end of September (check out IMDb – on the left is a whole menu of upcoming TV shows and dates they start (again)). So, YAYYY, CBS!!
Please renew Scorpion; it’s my favorite show and it’s a family show–people helping people–what could get better than that?
Love a lot of CBS shows…. Criminal Minds, (I only wish Shemar Moore was still on) Blue Bloods, love the Reagans, hope it stays …. NCIS, I wish the original cast was on show, love Gibbs but he needs some great partners, ( like Ziva & Tony, Mike just to name a few) I hope it’s not cancelled, just had a lot of new cast all at once… I like Bull, it’s different.
Wow cbs gets crazy ratings. I’m glad Bull is up there because I love it. Bull and Life in pieces are a couple of my new favorite favorite tv shows. The other two that I watch on cbs, Big Bang & NCIS, I figured wouldn’t be in any danger.
I only care about Blue Bloods, only CBS show I watch. I hope we get to see the Reagan family around the dinner table for YEARS to come.
Please keep Pure genius.
Excellent plot and actors
An innovative show a mist many unintelligent ridiculous ones
Elementary, Scorpion and The Big Bang Theory are excellent shows. I wished you had left Elementary on Thursdays, it is a get whodunnit without a lot of gore, while Scorpion and Big Bang are family friendly. Please keep these shows and don’t replace them with any more trash TV.
Thank you
My 3 favorite shows also.
Keep Scorpion for a 4th season – it’s a show the family can watch and supports the idea it is more than ok to be different and quirky and brilliant – and to use those special talents for good!!
Think I’m the lone ‘Kevin Can Wait’ fan in these comments. Think the show really found its identity about half way through the first season.
agreed
Please renew Pure Genius. It is a great show and gives hope for future breakthroughs in Medicine. The story lines are never boring and I look forward to watching it every week. My DVR is set to record all episodes. GREAT SHOW!!!
KEEP PURE GENIUS!!
