Hallmark Channel has ordered their fourth scripted series called Chesapeake Shores. Based on the books by Sherryl Woods, the 10 episodes will debut sometime next year.
Here are the details:
HALLMARK CHANNEL GREENLIGHTS PRODUCTION ON “CHESAPEAKE SHORES” THE NETWORK’S NEWEST PRIMETIME ORIGINAL SCRIPTED SERIES SET TO PREMIERE IN 2015
Series Will Be Based On The Beloved Novels By New York Times Bestselling Author Sherryl Woods
Hallmark Channel announces its newest primetime original scripted series in development, “Chesapeake Shores,” has been greenlit to start production. Based on New York Times bestselling author Sherryl Woods’ cherished 10-part book series of the same name, “Chesapeake Shores” follows the heartfelt story of the O’Brien family. A sprawling, multi-generational clan, the O’Briens reunite in their charming hometown on the banks of the Chesapeake Bay to face the painful memories from the past and learn the importance of reconciliation. The pilot is scheduled for its World Premiere on Hallmark Channel in 2015. The series would be the fourth original primetime series for the network, following the network’s other original series, “Cedar Cove,” “When Calls the Heart” and “Signed, Sealed, Delivered.”
“We have had tremendous success partnering with bestselling authors to bring to life their beloved stories and we are so excited to extend that partnership with revered author Sherryl Woods,” said Michelle Vicary, EVP, Programming for Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel. “We know our audience will be captivated by the breadth of storylines and characters that Sherryl weaves throughout her books and we are thrilled for ‘Chesapeake Shores’ to join our lineup of successful primetime series,” Vicary concluded.
Woods started writing the Chesapeake Shores book series in 2009, and is a successful romance writer of over 100 romance and mystery novels since 1982. She is frequently on the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists with her stories that feature heartfelt family sagas. “Chesapeake Shores” marks her first partnership with Hallmark Channel, building on the network’s previous success with bringing bestselling authors’ stories to the screen.
“Chesapeake Shores” tells the story of architect and urban planner Mick O’Brien, who has built the community of Chesapeake Shores from scratch on land once owned by his ancestors. But the process of developing the town on the banks of the Chesapeake Bay created dissension among Mick and his brothers. His workaholic lifestyle created problems in his marriage as well, especially when his success took him away from his family for longer and longer periods of time. When his wife left him, Mick convinced her to leave their five children with him in Chesapeake Shores, and then turned them over to his mother Nell to raise. Now, one by one, those children – now adults – are returning to Chesapeake Shores to make peace with their uninvolved father and with the mother they believe abandoned them. Mick’s brothers, too, must find a way to make amends and move on. And at the heart of it all is Nell, the glue that holds this entire family – sons, brothers, sisters, wives and cousins – together. “Chesapeake Shores” is about family, but it’s also about community and heartfelt emotions – the kind that can tear families apart, and the kind that can make them heal.

What do you think? Do you plan to check out this new Hallmark series in 2015?
I love that series of books and are so excited to have series made about it!! Cannot wait!
I would also like closure on the series “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” and “Cedar Cove”. Just a two hour finale would do it! Hallmark owes this to us viewers!
I have read all of her books, since I live on the Eastern Shore in Maryland.
Very entertaining keeps me always looking for a new book to come out.
Wish Hallmark would bring back signed, sealed, and delivered, along with a final season for Cedar Cove. Enjoyed both of those series, but there was not an ending for either of these two shows. Not fair to those of us who supported your hallmark channel.
Love all the Hallmark series and excited for a new one. I wish Hallmark would bring back the best series though “Signed, Sealed, Delivered”. The movies are good and the series was terrific with good stories and acting.
Exciting news. Presently reading this series. I do hope it is better than the Cedar Cove series.
My book club friends and I have read the entire series and have been waiting for the show ever since I first heard about it. Was glad they didn’t cancel Cedar Cove or When Calls the Heart/
Cedar Cove is cancelled 🙁
I have read and loved every book in Sherryl Woods Chesapeake Shores series. The O’Brien family dynamics are complex, involved and interesting and they draw you into each story and leave you anxious for the next installment to be released. It was so exciting to hear this series is coming to the Hallmark channel movies! I cannot wait to see who is chosen to play each character and I guarantee that I will love watching the series! It can’t start soon enough! Thank you Hallmark!!!
VB This is great news! You bet I’ll watch.h
I have read all of the Chesapeake Shores books by Sherryl Woods. they are great, can’t eait for them to be on TV. CT
Only if they don’t massacre this series of books like they have the cedar cove books…I will give it a try.
Looking forward to it I’ve listened to the series on books on CD. It’s great. I would also like to comment that this whole year ,maybe longer, the music is so much louder that it’s hard to hear the voices . And I have heard this from many people. It’s not just our TV or service provider. Please give me your feedback on this. Thank You. Pat
Yes the music is louder than the voices in the movies!!!
I thought it was just me. I find I have to turn on closed captions to get all the dialog.
I just found out through Twitter that Treat Williams will be playing Mick – perfect casting! I will DEFINITELY be watching!
When does it start coming on?
No word yet. http://tvseriesfinale.com/?p=42813
Been waiting since I first heard about it. Hallmark is the greatest channel on the TV for movies and series. So nice to know there won’t be violence, profanity and nudity.
When is the premiere? (If the series has not started) I am anxiously awaiting
