Chesapeake Shores is returning for its fifth season next month, and new details have been released about the season ahead — including the exit of Jesse Metcalfe’s character. The actor has played one-half of the main romance on the Hallmark drama series since the show began in 2016, but he announced his plans to depart earlier this year. Metcalfe did return to film some final scenes for season five.
At the end of season four, viewers saw Trace (Metcalfe) and Abby (Meghan Ory) kiss and reconcile. TV Insider revealed that season five will pick up months later and a flashback will see Trace leave town after a big blowout with Abby.
Abby may, however, find love with a new character named Evan, played by Robert Buckley. Abby joins dad Mick (Treat Williams) at O’Brien Construction and they are hired to build a boutique hotel. It may not be smooth sailing though. Ory said the following about the changes for her character:
“Even though it’s hard and Abby’s saying goodbye to things that weren’t working in her life, she’s moving forward. Abby is finally taking control of her life for her.”
Chesapeake Shores will return to Hallmark Channel on August 15th.

Jesse will certainly be missed but with good storylines and strong new characters the show should be able to forge ahead. Perhaps a more edgy
approach by the writers could be beneficial. The cast has a lot going for it.

I absolutely love Chesapeake Shores & really hate seeing Jesse leave. He’s an awesome actor!! I’ve been watching CS since it began & have loved the Trace & Abby love story, as well as the O’Brien family story. I hope this season brings happiness for Abby & other family members too – can’t wait for August 15th! Hallmark – please don’t cancel this series!!!
I totally agree. I love the show, and I am looking forward to it’s return. I am really unhappy about the fact that Jesse Is leaving. I will really miss him being on the show.

I am so happy and excited that Chesapeake Shores is returning!!! I am also sad that Jess is leaving, but I have no doubt that the show isn’t going to be just as fulfilled with great and surprisingly more excitement, with all the other cast!!! There seems to be a love interest with all the cast members of the family, and I find that very endearing. I am very saddened to read that Jesse will not continue with show. I will not watch the show once he is out.

Cannot wait for Chesapeake to return… This shows that are off for a whole year at a time you almost lose interest as you forget what even has happened from week to week or a year to year but I am excited to get Chesapeake shores back.. A lot of time they end these shows and they’re up in the air and we never have an ending
Jessie leaving is very upsetting I know why celebrities leave when they are on top of their A game. Its very heart breaking to the fans if this series at times only certain individuals brings out the real essence of the show. Jessie will be missed lets see what Hallmark is offering in season five. If this new guy is not a good as Jessie or not cutting it close .Then Hallmark has lost a faithful fan.

Jesse Metcalfe kept me watching long after I tired of the Abby characters bi-polar like actions. If these were real life people he would have been long gone. Jesse’s character has suffered enough.
Won’t be the same without Jesse Metcaffe n his singing n playing guitar will b missed. Is he going to b in Marthers Vineyads Mystery…
