Chicago PD is losing their captain. Deadline reports showrunner Matt Olmstead is leaving the NBC TV series after season four.
Part of Dick Wolf’s Chicago franchise, the cop drama follows the men and women of the Chicago Police Department’s District 21. The cast includes Jason Beghe, Sophia Bush, Patrick John Flueger, LaRoyce Hawkins, Elias Koteas, Jesse Lee Soffer, Marina Squerciati, and Amy Morton.
Olmstead co-created Chicago PD and has been with the Chicago franchise since season one of Chicago Fire. Chicago PD is currently in its fourth season. NBC has not yet announced whether the series will be renewed for a fifth season or not, but it seems likely. The show maintains consistent ratings. So far, season four is averaging a 1.41 rating in the 18-49 demo and 6.596 million viewers.
A replacement for Olmstead has not been announced yet.
What do you think? Do you watch Chicago PD? Do you want a fifth season?
There should definitely be a 5th season!
One of my favorite shows.I hope there is a season 5 . I hope Matt O. decided to stay . He will be missed. All the characters make the show was it is. I love cop shows show.
Hate the fact that Hank Voight will not be in show next Season….. they are such a perfect cast together….any chance he will stay on, please!

I am very sorry to read that Matt Olmstead is leaving Chicago PD
What is the reason He is such a strong character in the show and will
be very difficult to replace
We watch all the Chicago shows and they are all so well acted
I find it difficult to understand the reasoning of this character changep
No one can replace Hank Voight. He’s my favorite part of the show.Have always thought ,that he was such an interesting mix of good and bad.Show just won’t be the same without him.Reminds me of when “Carter”left Person of Interest.Show died.
i want a fifth sason. it is a good show
I thoroughly enjoy all Chicago programs, and feel that Matt Olmstead will be missed, as he epitomizes what we’d all like to see in a Police Captain. Hopefully, whoever takes his place will fill the role well, and keep the viewers interested.
Do you people who are commenting really watch the show? If so, you would know that Matt Olmstead is the Showrunner for Chicago PD. He is NOT a character on the show.
I just hope that whoever takes his place will do the show justice! He will be missed!
I agree I will miss Mike Olmstead as well, he really does justice to the character and keeps me watching every week, I hope if it’s renewed everyone else stays and they get a new bad ass Seargeant… I also miss Antonio on this show, he’s good in Chicago Justice but I liked him on this show better…..
I want a season 5 and beyond
So Matt as showrunner is captain of the Chicago series, not the Capt character on the show.. That is Jason Beghe that heads up the team squad. I was thinking it was him leaving, glad it’s not. I like Chicago Fire, PD, & Med. Not into the justice court one.
I will truly miss Mike Olmstead! Such a great character. He’d be impossible to replace. Sad news!! I love all the Chicago shows.
I also have enjoyed Chicago PD, and the other Chicago series since they began. I am sorry to hear that Matt Olmstead is leaving the show. I hope they choose the new Captain from within their group(like Elias Koteas). Then they can maybe bring back Nick Wechsler. I look forward to seeing more seasons for the all the Chicago shows.
I truly enjoy Chicago PD, Chicago Fire and Chicago MED. The new Chicago Justice is taking a little more time. I think if Matt Olmstead leaves you will lose viewers. He is the heart of it all. . I think he plays the part so well. His shoes will be hard to fill.
Absolutely! Best program on net work TV, on of two that I never miss
if it ‘s not broken don’t fix it
