As you may know, Commander in Chief starred Geena Davis as female President Mackenzie Allen. The series started off strong in the ratings but was then plagued by production issues which resulted in declining viewership.
Soonafter ABC announced the cancellation of the struggling freshman series, word came out that Chief and the show’s characters may return in the form of a made-for-tv movie. ABC chief Steve McPherson was reportedly in talks with seriescreator Rod Lurie and hoped that a decision would be reached over the summer. Well, it looks like we won’t have to wait that long.
In an appearance last night on ABC’s late-night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live, guest Geena Davis announced that there would indeed be a two-hour movie. She didn’t offer any further details but fans of the White House drama are elated.
The actress was on the show promoting the upcoming Commander in Chief season one release on DVD. Davis joked that she refused to step down out of office, has been storing the White House sets in her garage and has been filming scenes for Chief just in case. Who says that politics can’t be funny?
I just want to add my voice to those above, I think its a disgrace that this show has been cancelled, and it needs to return to our screens again!!! After the West Wing this was the only worthy political drama on television, BRING IT BACK!!!
We need the show back!!!
i love the show and i want it on if it is not on tv by september of 2007 i will go on astrike and i am sure others will agree
I just wanted to add my voice to the many calling for the return of CiC…at least a movie would be gratifying. I believe we should look to A&E or Bravo or even USA to pick up the show. They have rescued other ‘drops’ like “Monk” in the past. I, for one, will write to them for consideration.
Our family loved CIC. It was found to be interesting and believable. My daughters & I loved Geena Davis-what a role model for girls!!Yeah, I’m sure that the present GOP had something to do with getting it off the air. Sounds sneaky & paranoid but I wouldn’t put it past them! Just my opinion-AC.
Commander and chief was THE show I watched with my Pre-teen daughter… we eagerly awaited each episode.. even through the stupid, long breaks. she’s so disappointed. Ugly Betty just isn’t up to the important message from C&C.
I think that this was the best show. It was well written and well acted. I was so disappointed when I could no longer find it in the ABC line up. I still hope that you can revive the show. It should be a big hit because we are in the process of selecting another president for the country and because a female is amoung the top contenders. Thank you ABC for considering to allow this show to return to the air.
just finished watching it in England, best US drama since series 1 of 24. Should have been one more series.
Ya gotta wonder if the bozos at ABC were being paid off or “pressured” to discontinue this series. I don’t believe for a minute that it was failing in the ratings. I think we have another series in the works “The Conspiracy – The forced decline and fall of a successful political TV series”. Hmmm.. maybe the Republicans in office couldn’t stand the pre-advertisement for Hilary.
Unlike the other viewers, I lost interest in this show once the writing became more focused on the dysfunctional family. There are more than enough reality shows and Lifetime movies containing family infighting. It it the same thing which turned me off of ER, which also started out well…
I’m going to miss this show.
It was thought provoking…a woman in the White House…HMMMM? I will miss this series. I heard about a movie being made, but I’d rather have the series come back on another, smarter network.
I wonder if the current white house hated what the show stood for? Hum?
I agree with everything said above, except the comment of this show not being good. This was a great, ground-breaking, thought-provoking, glimpse into what might happen show.
I really, really hope another network picks it up because it was a great cast in addition to the great writing. And I can’t believe how ABC just left us hanging with the last episode. And like Jeff above, I Tivo’d most of them and I just watched the last episode and went searching to see when it was coming back.
What a shame.
Just watched the final episode and was doing some research on the web when I came across the show’s cancellation. One of the few drama series of high caliber and yet it got cancelled! I do hope other network can pick this up and show ABC how stupid they were.
everytime there is a good show that makes sense they cancel it. we get stupid things like dancing with the stars or ugly betty. worse we get road wars and senfeld. i want this show back because it was good. i could use my brain. who needs a brain. we are americans.
