Tonight’s installment is the last episode of USA Network’s Common Law series — either for the season or for the series. It remains to be seen if this TV show will be cancelled or renewed for a second season.
Common Law follows a pair of LAPD detectives — Travis Marks (Michael Ealy) and Wes Mitchell (Warren Kole). They bicker but their talents mesh so well that their commanding officer, Captain Sutton (Jack McGee), orders them into counselling to keep the team together. Others in the cast include Sonya Walger, Elizabeth Chomko, Alicia Coppola, Nora Zehetner, and Reed Diamond.
The show debuted back on May 11th to 2.48 million viewers with a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic. In terms of viewers, that was about 30% lower than Fairly Legal’s second season premiere a couple months earlier. Common Law did however significantly outperform the ninth episode of Fairly Legal that preceded it.

Over the course of the season, Common Law’s ratings have declined and that’s not positive. At the end of July, they hit a new low with 1.76 million and a 0.5 demo rating. The season has averaged 2.13 million with a 0.6 demo rating.
The show is the lowest-rated scripted series currently on USA. That’s somewhat understandable because it does air on Friday nights, a lesser-watched night of television. Still, Common Law’s numbers are worse than Fairly Legal’s season average (which also aired on Fridays) and much lower than the other scripted shows on USA this summer.
What will USA do? It’s hard to say but, based on the ratings, there doesn’t seem to be an overwhelming reason for them to renew Common Law for a second season.
But, what do you think? Do you like Common Law? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed? Which way do you think USA will go?
Like a cold drink of water on a hot summer night! Keep it!
Common Law is a wonderful, funny, witty and charismatic show that must be continued. Lots of my friends in EU like it, compared to Fairly Legal which is actually considered to be a ridiculous show. If something must be cancelled, it should be Fairly Legal or other inane shows (please for once think about good/enjoyable shows and disregard ratings – if it was not for a 2 inch tall half naked big breasted woman, Fairly Legal would have been a total failure) !!!!!!!!!
Love the show. Love the night. Love the time. It’s something to look forward to at the end of the week. Put the kiddies to sleep. Grab a snack and a drink. Date with self or 2 guys (2 persuasions – sexy and intellectual).
Renew and put it on day that people will actually watch it!!
It’s such an amazing show.Of course we wnat season two.Love Wes!
Come on, USA! Can’t imagine not having a “Common Law” to watch. It would be a crime to cancel Common Law!
Love love love this show! Please bring it back!
hellz yeah u brin it back hellz yeah
Common Law is fantastic. Best series to come along in a long time. I hate to watch the season finale knowing it might not be back.
Please bring it back for at least a second season. Remember Hill Street Blues, it didn’t start out strong and I had to keep searching for it, but it finally stuck, and I believe on a Friday.
BRING COMMON LAW BACK FOR A SECOND SEASON!
Move it to anothe rnight and RENEW!!! it’s fresh, hilarious, the chemistry between the two has not been seen like this in a long time. . . .KEEP IT!!
I love this show. Please renew for season two. I look forwarding to watching this show every week and can’t wait until season two began.
Please, please, please renew
Keep this show. Renew it! My husband and I love to watch it. This is a good cast.
Move it to Wednesdays and give it a chance!!
Don’t cancel!
It is smart and funny! Give it a better chance on another night. Please renew!
I really enjoy watching this show. It kind of reminds me of the original Lethal Weapon. If it gets cancelled by USA , I hope one of the other networks has the brains to pick it up. One thing I did appreciate about the final episode is – they didn’t leave any unanswered questions. For this, I do give the writers a lot of credit.
