Tonight’s installment is the last episode of USA Network’s Common Law series — either for the season or for the series. It remains to be seen if this TV show will be cancelled or renewed for a second season.
Common Law follows a pair of LAPD detectives — Travis Marks (Michael Ealy) and Wes Mitchell (Warren Kole). They bicker but their talents mesh so well that their commanding officer, Captain Sutton (Jack McGee), orders them into counselling to keep the team together. Others in the cast include Sonya Walger, Elizabeth Chomko, Alicia Coppola, Nora Zehetner, and Reed Diamond.
The show debuted back on May 11th to 2.48 million viewers with a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic. In terms of viewers, that was about 30% lower than Fairly Legal’s second season premiere a couple months earlier. Common Law did however significantly outperform the ninth episode of Fairly Legal that preceded it.

Over the course of the season, Common Law’s ratings have declined and that’s not positive. At the end of July, they hit a new low with 1.76 million and a 0.5 demo rating. The season has averaged 2.13 million with a 0.6 demo rating.
The show is the lowest-rated scripted series currently on USA. That’s somewhat understandable because it does air on Friday nights, a lesser-watched night of television. Still, Common Law’s numbers are worse than Fairly Legal’s season average (which also aired on Fridays) and much lower than the other scripted shows on USA this summer.
What will USA do? It’s hard to say but, based on the ratings, there doesn’t seem to be an overwhelming reason for them to renew Common Law for a second season.

Keep it. I resisted watching it for most of the season but accidentally caught the beginning of a later episode and had to turn it off so I could acquire the previous episodes and watch them in order. Needless to say, I’m hooked!! USA has some of the best programming on cable.

No question about it renew, renew, renew. Maybe USA should do more advertising for the show and other ppl will watch it. I love the show and they need to at least give it a second season to see how it work out.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE KEEP THIS SHOW!!!! This is one of TV’s better new shows, maybe the best. It is funny and has great story lines. The actors are wonderful and the acting is terrific. The fact that it airs on Friday night at 10:00 really prevents a lot of people from having the chance to view it. This is a breath of fresh air and should be appreciated for what it is – entertaining at its best. At least put it on at a better time, advertise it more and see what happens to the ratings then.
Please keep it!!!!!!. It’s mesmerizing and I love it. The actors have great chemistry. Every espisode make me want more. The characters are funny and interesting. I look forward to every new bit of character info the writers provide. Please don’t cancel.
KEEP IT! KEEP IT! KEEP IT! This show is hilarious. It’s USA’s fault that the ratings weren’t great by debuting it on the worst day of the week….FRIDAY! Move it to a higher profile day of the week and/or one of NBC’s other networks and you’ll get the higher ratings. Also, NBC needs to pay attention to sites like this that praise the show and Facebook’s official page for the show. That will give you your TRUE demographics. Whatever you do, DO NOT CANCEL IT!
Great show.Much more entertaining than the usual cop series – which sow now days more and more violence and have become not entertaining at all. It is a shame that was aired in Fridays. Hope to see season 2.
I love this show. It’s a cop show but it’s not just the same old boring cop show. I don’t watch it on the day it airs but watch it On Demand. I actually watch all of USA’s shows but always On Demand.
I love this show! It is funny and very entertaining to watch. I watched Fairly Legal both seasons and I like this show better than Fairly Legal’s second season. Fairly Legal wasn’t as good this season as it was last season.
This was a show I thought was just going to be another formulaic cop show; a wanna-be CSI. So, it took me a while to start watching.
Boy! Was _I_ surprised! I found it refreshingly fun and upbeat. I didn’t really expect it to have such good comedy elements balanced with serious drama. A very good show that I’d enjoy watching again.
I hope they do renew it. And put it on a different night. It deservers better.
