Tonight’s installment is the last episode of USA Network’s Common Law series — either for the season or for the series. It remains to be seen if this TV show will be cancelled or renewed for a second season.
Common Law follows a pair of LAPD detectives — Travis Marks (Michael Ealy) and Wes Mitchell (Warren Kole). They bicker but their talents mesh so well that their commanding officer, Captain Sutton (Jack McGee), orders them into counselling to keep the team together. Others in the cast include Sonya Walger, Elizabeth Chomko, Alicia Coppola, Nora Zehetner, and Reed Diamond.
The show debuted back on May 11th to 2.48 million viewers with a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic. In terms of viewers, that was about 30% lower than Fairly Legal’s second season premiere a couple months earlier. Common Law did however significantly outperform the ninth episode of Fairly Legal that preceded it.

Over the course of the season, Common Law’s ratings have declined and that’s not positive. At the end of July, they hit a new low with 1.76 million and a 0.5 demo rating. The season has averaged 2.13 million with a 0.6 demo rating.
The show is the lowest-rated scripted series currently on USA. That’s somewhat understandable because it does air on Friday nights, a lesser-watched night of television. Still, Common Law’s numbers are worse than Fairly Legal’s season average (which also aired on Fridays) and much lower than the other scripted shows on USA this summer.
What will USA do? It’s hard to say but, based on the ratings, there doesn’t seem to be an overwhelming reason for them to renew Common Law for a second season.
But, what do you think? Do you like Common Law? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed? Which way do you think USA will go?
This has become my favorite show — please don’t cancel it — give it a chance!
Please bring it back – I love the relationship between the two of them!
This is a keeper. Humor, great chemistry with the key players and original stories with the distinct element of the couples counseling. I hope that USA gives it another chance. It is the highlight of my weekend viewing.
Maybe I should have watched it on Fridays and not dvr’d it.
PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love this show!! Its my “Friday night fix”! I’ll be really upset if its not renewed.
Good show with interesting theme. DO NOT CANCEL
This is the best show this summer! Maybe USA should change the day it airs. I love the cast and the storyline. Keep Common Law!!! The End.
I really hope they renew this show! We have looked forward to watching it every week, Friday night or not. It’s a good show and I like the characters a lot. I’m so sick and tired of dumb reality shows and unfunny sitcoms with laugh tracks! This show deserves a second season!
Renew it! Even if you have to move it to a different night!!! One of the best new series aired on USA. The chemistry between the lead characters is fantastic & believable. After the loss of “In Plain Sight” you need this one .
Wonderful writing, awesome cast! PLEASE renew for season two.
Common Law is one of the very very best programs to come along for such a long time. Why do you even have to take a poll to even know whether you should renew the sitcome? Have you lost your intelligent thinking or loss thinking to know what is a good show or not? REEEEAALY!!!!! IT IS AN EXCELLENT ENTERTAINING AND VERY ENJOYABLE. Why isn’t the garbage cleaned up in order to leave room for very good programs. To renew “Anger Management” for 19 more episodes means someone must have had their head up their A_ _!!!!! And what about… Read more »
Common law is a great show. The last episode was fantastic. Renew it!

This TV is so interesting! Please renew it.
If the show were canceled, i will never watch usa!!!!!
(Please don’t penalize me for using my Kindle which doesn’t let me finish some of my opinions because it has limited range?) The public is becoming more and more wary of new shows that gives us (maybe) 13 shows to decide whether or not we will stay with it and pass word of mouth since these shows that DO lose are generally woefully under advertised. Also, there is a very well received Canadian Sci fi show called Continuum which no U.S. network bothered to pick up It currently has a rating of 8.0 on Imdb with at least 7,000 votes… Read more »
