Although Shemar Moore left at the end of its 11th season and Thomas Gibson was fired early into the 12th, the Criminal Minds TV show still scored a 13th season on CBS. The ratings did slip some during 2016-17, but within respectable limits for such a long-lived TV series. How long can its luck hold? Will Criminal Minds be cancelled or renewed for season 14? Stay tuned.
A CBS police procedural, season 13 of Criminal Minds stars Joe Mantegna, Paget Brewster, Matthew Gray Gubler, A.J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Adam Rodriguez, Daniel Henney, and Aisha Tyler. Moore returns in a guest-starring capacity. The series follows the FBI’s elite Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) out of Quantico, Virginia. The BAU remains dedicated to understanding predators’ motive and triggers, in order to stop them before they strike again.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. For comparisons: The 12th season of Criminal Minds averaged a 1.39 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.466 million total viewers (live + same day ratings).
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like the Criminal Minds TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a 14th season on CBS?
5/12/18 update: CBS has renewed Criminal Minds for a 14th season. Details here.
I’ve seen every episode so far and definitely want to see more seasons. I especially like episodes that tie in with older episodes. The relationship & on screen chemistry he had with Garcia is missed by many and can not be duplicated.Unless Reid (is working on another project) he needs to be in every episode, enough with the ‘P/T teaching gig’ ! Kill off 1 or 2 of… Read more »
I was a immersed with this show until they fired Thomas Gibson, loved his character as agent Hotchner. Personally I think they should write better stories as they used to. Shows now are too emotional and all about the agents being victims and dealing with PTSD. I enjoy and still watch all the other seasons from 1 to 12.
