The Curse of Civil War Gold is a new series coming to History Channel soon that will take a look at a mystery from the 19th century and try to solve it.
History revealed more about this new historical series in a press release. Check that out below.
“Marty Lagina, of HISTORY’s #1 series The Curse of Oak Island, has been approached by numerous people offering leads into some of the world’s greatest mysteries and has learned of an enigma that rivals Oak Island – a story of national treasure that goes back to the Civil War – in the new six-episode non-fiction series The Curse of Civil War Gold, premiering Tuesday, March 6 at 10PM ET/PT.
In 1865, Union soldiers from Michigan tracked down and arrested Confederate President Jefferson Davis before he could flee the country. These troops allegedly confiscated millions of dollars’ worth of Confederate gold and silver that Davis was transporting and carried out a daring plot to smuggle it nearly 1,000 miles back home using the burgeoning railway system. According to a lighthouse keeper’s deathbed confession years later, part of the stolen treasury was allegedly put into a train car on a barge that was deliberately pushed off a ferry into Lake Michigan.
Kevin Dykstra, a Michigan native and history enthusiast, has been on a seven year quest to solve what happened to the lost gold of the Civil War and believes he can find the sunken train car. However, the sonar scanning of an estimated one hundred square miles will involve tens of thousands of dollars and Dykstra will need to show tangible proof of his theory to Marty before the Traverse City businessman will invest in Kevin’s operation. This leads Dykstra and his team on a compelling hunt to the scene of the original heist; into bank vaults to search for secret tunnels constructed to help launder the loot; and ultimately to the bottom of Lake Michigan to finally decipher one of the biggest conspiracies in American history.
To date, season five of HISTORY’s The Curse of Oak Island averages 4.3 million total viewers in Live+7 and is on pace to become the show’s most-watched season. The Curse of Oak Island airs Tuesdays at 9PM ET/PT.
The Curse of Civil War Gold is produced for HISTORY by Prometheus Entertainment. Kevin Burns, Joe Lessard and Kim Sheerin serve as executive producers for Prometheus. Jennifer Wagman is executive producer for HISTORY.
A+E Networks holds worldwide distribution rights for The Curse of Civil War Gold.”

Did I hear correctly that the temperature in Lake Michigan dropped 10 degrees overnight? Really? What about the bottom being afftectedd by the winds on the surface? Really?
This show is way better than oak island and especially better than gold Rush. Ignore the comments about the fake or scripted stuff. The people saying that obviously don’t know that all reality shows have fake elements. The point is that it’s entertaining. This is one of the more plausible shows I’ve seen. Only critique is that the narrator is annoying as he always speaks in a questioning tone????
Is there a season 2 coming soon?
It has been cancelled because Marty’s loser brother, wants Marty to fu d the hunt as well as Oak Island, he has never worked and said he isn’t planning on finding anything he just wants to spend his brothers money.
Have only seen one show of the Civil War Gold. Ater the diver named Kevin was injured an he had to call Marty. And Marty Legna told him he was going to call in a professional diver to do the search. The look on that Kevin’s face all pissed off he didn’t want someone else finding “his” gold. But he had to ok Marty bringing in the pro because Marty is the money man. Then oh my oh my surprise surprise when Kevin an his crew took the pro’s out on the lake well hmmmm the pro’s found nothing !!… Read more »
I would definitely watch the conclusion of cival war gold or any other episodes after season 2
Will there be a season 3? Can’t find any info anywhere on it?
Aloha—when is the search for confederate gold series going to repeat on the History channel…?
Mahalo!!
I think both TV serials are great watching. Sometimes tedious but then if we really expected results within 1 episode time frame where would the excitement and disappointment be. I for one believe the Oak Island treasure (Templar Treasure) lies below the bedrock with an entrance leading in from the swamp. The box channels keep the area above the bedrock flooded which is why they always hit water. Rick is correct. Drain the swamp, excavate down through the muck (I suspect consisting of tunnel tailings used as fill between the two islands that make up Oak Island today) and discover… Read more »
7 wagons carrying 60 bars of gold 60×27.5lbs equals 420 bars. 60 means wagons were carrying 1650 lbs each. 280 bars found in Utah is 2 thirds of this max estimate. This leaves 140 bars. If 3 box cars were on the ferry and one fell off then 140 bars might be found at the very most. However the wagons would have to traverse over Pennsylvania Mtns. More likely a civil war wagon couldn’t carry more than 40 bars. This would mean all the gold is found. Also only a silver coin was found by the treasure hunters. These would… Read more »
I find it a great history lesson besides the possibility of a great treasure. Please keep this show on!!!!!!!
I hope they find some treasure, otherwise they have slander two military officers who probably served honorably.
I also enjoy Curse of Oak Island but you are being rude to the viewers and abusive to those talking by having the loud obnoxious noise in the background when people are speaking. why do you do this to your viewers? Thank heavens for closed captioning and the mute button in order to get as much as possible out of the program.
Sincerely, a concerned viewer.
I have watched the Curse of Oak Island since it made its first appearance, therefore I looked forward in watching ” The Curse of Civil War God” since I heard of it. I am deeply disappointed that instead of reporting ” non revised history” the program has been politicized to the point of being nauseating. I expected a truthful depiction from the Laginas Brother’s. The program is just more PC drivel from the likes of Ken Burns and those who like to present their “perception” of history instead of the facts. I won’t be watching anymore and have encouraged friends… Read more »
Series is done by many including a KEVIN Burns, not the KEN Burns. FYI
Excited about the new show. Really enjoy Oak Island and all the people involved. I think there is a little adventure seeker in all of us. I would love to be there.
Yes I will be watching I have heard this story before of lost treasure in Michigan lake I saw pics of the Lagina brothers and their families on an outing and while some were hanging off the side of their boat and Rick sitting in the boat with a big smile I was thinking they could be right above a bunch of pretty shiny coins lol this is exciting and I can’t wait to watch thanks History Channel and all the crew involved in this search
