As you may recall, ABC recently announced that they were reworking their Wednesday night schedule (in preparation for the return of Fox’s American Idol). That left fans of Day Break out in the cold as the Taye Diggs series would be pulled from the schedule after the December 27th episode had aired. There was some hope and speculation that the series would be moved to another night. We now know that’s not going to happen.
The Lost-replacing series Day Break has been pulled from the schedule even earlier than expected. The ratings for Day Break have continued to fall since its debut and the latest was no exception. The sixth episode, entitle “What If They Find Him,” attracted only 3.1 million households. As a result, ABC has yanked the drama effective immediately. Repeats of George Lopez and According to Jim will fill 8-10pm Wednesdays for the next two weeks (both sitcoms begin new seasons in January on Wednesday nights).
There are seven unaired episodes and, as of now, there are no plans to air them on the network (joining fellow dramas The Nine and Six Degrees). The good news is that ABC has said they will post the remaining episodes online, with a new episode being posted every Thursday for the next seven weeks. They may decide to release the episodes for purchase online via iTunes but I’m guessing that will have a lot to do with viewer demand.
First Invasion. Then Lost on hiatus. Now cancelling the filler Daybreak. Let me ask this. When Invasion was on, they would take 3+ week breaks without any message to viewers that re-runs would be on or when the next new episode would air. They create their own bad ratings with poor policies on distribution. Daybreak was only a filler for Lost which should have never taken a break either. They honestly think Jim and Lopez are better? What a joke. I hope Housewives, Anatomy, and even my fave show Lost all fail on them now. I won’t be happy until… Read more »
is there any chance to find daybreak on DVD someday?
abc corporate noobs…
nice way to loose viewers…
Im so disappointed to find out that Day Break has been cancelled. I really loved this show. Shame on ABC for pulling Day Break!
Don’t the 3.1 million of us still watching count? I really enjoyed this show it was different and exciting. I’m very disappointed with your decision to cancel and especially about having no regard to its viewers and fans.
I loved this show! I would watch the episodes online and when I came back to try to find them, they were gone!! I was excited when I read the beginning of this thread that the episodes would be online but they aren’t! Put Daybreak on another network and I’ll be there watching it!! Does it count on the ratings if people record it? Not everyone can watch it while it’s aired! If anyone finds a link or someplace they are airing the episode, PLEASE let me know!
It was a good show with potential. Seems like network execs would have learned a lesson from Fox’s quick cancellation of Firefly. If they would have shown some patience that would have been a long lived money maker.
Im soo sad… i loved the show and my lovely Taye… i looked forward to it and watching the show online when i couldn’t see it on tv….what will i do now? ….please bring it back!!!
I really miss the show. My boyfriend and I watched it religiously. We sat down to watch the 12/13 episode and were disappointed. We had to look it up on-line to see that it wasn’t showing. So where are the episodes??? ABC should be ashamed of themselves for not giving shows that THEY select to air a chance. No it won’t be another LOST, but they lost our Wednesday nite support.
ABC has a knack for canceling good shows, like INVASION. Just to let you know ABC, this is a BIG mistake. You are losing viewers as I write this. And will make plenty happy if you put it back on! Whatever happened to pleasing new fans that were made over such a short run. We still want to know how it will end. Wow, what an ingenious idea to replace an awesome drama headed by a great actor, with two sitcoms that aren’t even high on the funny factor. Oh well for new and exciting ideas.
I truly am disappointed that ABC cancelled Daybreak. I don’t watch TV that often but I was hooked on Daybreak. It had a great, suspenseful storyline and great actors! It was captivating and something I looked forward to on Wednesday nights. It was a HUGE mistake to cancel such a great show.
If you want to know why ABC does what it does, just follow the money! I can’t blame them for pulling a show that can’t bring in the revenue, but these idiots are shooting themselves in the foot by airing show after show and then cutting them before we’ve had a chance to finish them. It’s suicide!! Just finish airing the damn show & THEN cut your losses and do some better research next time before airing a show that will not make you a profit! You guys at ABC are just idiots…
I too am disappointed that Daybreak was cancelled. I really enjoyed the show; it was the only thing I watched this fall. What initially attracted me was the premise that the storyline would resolve after the last episode. I am amazed that ABC completely pulled the show from their website — like it never existed. With such a precedent, I’m unlikely to begin watching similar programming on ABC in the future. I wonder if they would pull the Bachelor after a few episodes if the ratings were low?
Let ABC know how you feel.

I really liked Day Brake, I’m going to stop watching ABC since they keep giving me only half seasons to watch. Bad call ABC.
