Let’s not fool ourselves. The Deception TV show has been cancelled by ABC after just one season. The mid-season replacement made its debut on March 11, 2018, but even smoke and mirrors couldn’t disguise its lackluster Nielsen ratings performance.
An ABC crime drama from creator Chris Fedak, Deception stars Jack Cutmore-Scott as illusionist Cameron Black, with Ilfenesh Hadera, Lenora Crichlow, Amaury Nolasco, Justin Chon, Laila Robins, and Vinnie Jones. Cameron is rocketing to the top, when scandal derails his show and his twin’s life. Now, this magician uses his tradecraft to help the Feds apprehend some of the most elusive criminals in the world and hopes to prove his brother, Jonathan (Cutmore-Scott), is an innocent man.
Jack Cutmore-Scott is an appealing actor. So far though, it seems he hasn’t found just the right vehicle. This is his second series in as many years not to survive past its freshman outing. Fox cancelled his comedy, Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life after just one season in 2016.

In total, there were four single-season dramas on the Alphabet’s chopping block today: Marvel’s Inhumans, Kevin (Probably) Saves the World, The Crossing, and Deception.
Variety has confirmed the Deception cancellation.

Are you kidding me? This is a great show!! And you left us hanging!! Please bring it back for a season 2! You could replace the Alec Baldwin show with season 2 of Deception on Monday night!!
Love, love, loved this show. I agree that ABC needs to get their stuff together. This was not only a fun show to watch, but the twists kept us coming back for more and more. The season finale was a great cliff-hanger! So, what does ABC do? They cancel yet another great show. I record everything and my recording list just keeps getting shorter and shorter. Neilson ratings don’t give the total picture! Drop them and leave the great shows on!
As usual, ABC is cancelling a great show. We stopped watching the network when Castle finished. We returned to watch The Catch, another well-scripted show which was also cancelled. We decided to give the network another try with Deception and were pleased ABC finally produced another winner. Well, goodbye ABC. No use trying anything the network offers in the future. 3 strikes ABC; you’re out!!
This is a great show! I couldn’t wait to see it each week. One of the few shows on TV I actually knew what day it came on as I record most all my shows. Please don’t cancel. So much story left to tell!!
Seriously? This was a great fresh new concept show and you cancel it! What are you thinking? Please reconsider Deception is one a few shows I actually like on your channel. I guess you would rather have another stale sappy soapdrama or reality garabage!
Please do not cancel this deception, it is the 2 best TV series I have got after “GOT”.
Let there be 2nd season, otherwise mystery remains mystery, what next?
Please bring back Deception
PLEASE, PLEASE bring back this show!! My husband and I loved watching this show together. Like one other reviewer said, we also never watch it live because of our schedule and young kids, but stream it when we can. We find this movie original, witty, creative, clean, intelligent, and intriguing. We want to find out what happens to these characters!! I honestly do not watch any tv, but this is the ONLY show that I watch. Please don’t replace this wonderful show!!!!
I’m very sad with the news that Deception was canceled. It was my entertainment/escape after a long day of work. I never watched it live, but very little people watch live anymore. On Demand and apps are what people with busy schedules lean on. I hope the decision wasn’t based on just ratings. I don’t see any complaints on the show by ratings on Facebook and other media. I hope ABC reconsiders.
Deception was the only reason I turned on the television on Sunday nights. Each week was another adventure. Absolutely loved each and every character. The last episode left me wanting to see the next season. When I look at all the garbage on television today I cannot believe a show like Deception would get cancelled. Why not cancel one of the 5 NCIS shows out there or The Bachelorette or The Bachelor? Not Deception!
Deception was an incredible TV show as it was unique compared to the other content out there. There should be a season 2 of the show.
The story was original. It das a magnificent show. It should go on. I think cancelling a show like this is the most ridiculous think to do.
