Kiefer Sutherland’s Designated Survivor TV show is in search of its fourth showrunner, in hopes of scoring a season two renewal. THR reports Jeff Melvoin, who took over the series in December, will be replaced as showrunner. According to the news outlet, the political drama series is looking for a new showrunner, for an “expected” second season.
Airing on the ABC television network, Designated Survivor follows HUD Secretary Tom Kirkman (Sutherland). After an attack wipes out the presidential line of succession, this lower-level Cabinet member becomes President of the United States. The cast also includes Natascha McElhone, Adan Canto, Italia Ricci, LaMonica Garrett, Tanner Buchanan, Kal Penn, and Maggie Q.
The new EP will be the TV series’ fourth showrunner so far. Amy B. Harris first helmed the David Guggenheim drama. She left last May, when ABC ordered Designated Survivor to series, due to a change in creative direction. Next at bat was Jon Harmon Feldman Feldman previously worked on ABC’s cancelled series, Blood & Oil and No Ordinary Family. He exited in December due to his overall deal with ABC Studios.
Designated Survivor: A Look at the Ratings
Currently, the first season of Designated Survivor is averaging a 1.37 in the demo and 6.28 million total viewers. While those numbers are not so impressive for a first season broadcast network drama, the sorry state of ABC’s programming slate may be its saving grace.
What do you think? Have you been watching the Designated Survivor TV series? Should ABC cancel or renew it for season two?
The show has a lot of potential but needs work. The Presiden’s staff is full of light weight and wooden characters (imagine the staff of Madam Secretary only colorless). The only credible woman character is the Senator — it needs more complexity. Why not add some quirky power like Goodwife’s Elspeth Tassione, Diane Lockhart, or Kalinda Sharma, and Christina Yang from Grey’s Anatomy. Where’s CJ Cregg when we need her?
I have enjoyed watching this show – Kiefer Sutherland plays the role well. Season Two, please!
I think this series is very well done and am really looking forward to season 2.
A great show. Do not cancel.
always loved Kiefer Sutherland and everything he’s done hope there is another season and another
Hoping for a renewal. A different twist on government’s workings and the cast seems to have a good chemistry.
This show is great! It definitely needs a second season. Please renew.

I love this show! It’s one of the few good ones left on TV right now. So far so unimpressed with network TV, it’s pathetic. Please renew it.
