Kiefer Sutherland’s Designated Survivor TV show is in search of its fourth showrunner, in hopes of scoring a season two renewal. THR reports Jeff Melvoin, who took over the series in December, will be replaced as showrunner. According to the news outlet, the political drama series is looking for a new showrunner, for an “expected” second season.
Airing on the ABC television network, Designated Survivor follows HUD Secretary Tom Kirkman (Sutherland). After an attack wipes out the presidential line of succession, this lower-level Cabinet member becomes President of the United States. The cast also includes Natascha McElhone, Adan Canto, Italia Ricci, LaMonica Garrett, Tanner Buchanan, Kal Penn, and Maggie Q.
The new EP will be the TV series’ fourth showrunner so far. Amy B. Harris first helmed the David Guggenheim drama. She left last May, when ABC ordered Designated Survivor to series, due to a change in creative direction. Next at bat was Jon Harmon Feldman Feldman previously worked on ABC’s cancelled series, Blood & Oil and No Ordinary Family. He exited in December due to his overall deal with ABC Studios.
Designated Survivor: A Look at the Ratings
Currently, the first season of Designated Survivor is averaging a 1.37 in the demo and 6.28 million total viewers. While those numbers are not so impressive for a first season broadcast network drama, the sorry state of ABC’s programming slate may be its saving grace.

EXCELLENT drama in every way! We never miss an episode-it has all the elements of a gripping political storyline (and ironicallly parallels the current political climate in many ways). Kiefer Sutherland is perfect as a level-headed president who gets thrust into the role after a whitehouse tragedy. Please please renew this series – I tell everyone to watch it!
I found this show sophisticated and worthwhile early in the series, but its storyline seems to be losing some of its quality recently. (The acting remains excellent.) We hope it will recover, its storyline improved, and be renewed.
I am so tired of one sided politics of Networks, I can’t stand it any longer.
I thought I would give another chance to your network with this show, because of an amazing plot line in the beginning of this show, but all this anti-gun, republicans are always the bad guys (btw I am independent), it’s getting very tiring with constant divisiveness coming from every direction.
If your network continue with it, Not only I will not watch this show I am not going to watch any programs put out by your network.
I started watching this show for CONSPIRACY angle, but I stop watching this show as soon as one-sided political propaganda became the main story line.
I am Independent libertarian and I know for sure that none of the issues this so called INDEPENDENT president is “pushing’ would be the first priority for any independent.
So, I will not bother with the second season if propaganda of one party agenda is going to be promoted.
Seriously? I bet you really believed the stock market plummeted when KS was shot at the end of season 1. You probably believed the capitol building attack was to rid the country of republicans. Well, peeps like us can’t wait for season 2. It wouldn’t matter what the political inclinations of a cast in a tv series are. Gosh, there are really angry people in the world and u are one of them. Unbelievable!
I am really enjoying this show. I am having trouble adapting to the casting of Natasha McElhone opposite Kiefer Sullivan. To me, her stature tends to diminish his. It is my issue, and I will get there. All other aspects of the casting are great – Kiefer Sutherland, Maggie Q, Kal Penn, Virginia Madsen, etc, I tune in every week, and hope the show is renewed for Season 2, and beyond…!!!

I have not watched too many series programs in the past, but I am on the edge of my seat for season two of “Designated Survivor” with Kiefer Sutherland. I’m hooked! Please renew and let us know when it will air!
According to renewcanceltv ABC has given Designated Survivor a 2nd season renewal.
It’s looking likely but it has not been renewed.
Please please renew this show for another season. It is a great show! You just can’t leave all the viewers hanging!
Have enjoyed Designated Survivor but me and my friend wonder how the premise works long term once all the conspirators responsible for bombing the Capitol are rooted out, and in the long term does it become a new version of West Wing. Think they killed off the VP too soon, but like Keifer Sutherland’s portrayal and like the rest of the cast. Hope it gets a second season.
