Charlie Sheen and CBS’ Two and a Half Men have played havoc with the other network’s schedules for years. The sitcom is one of the top-rated shows on television and sometimes reruns outperform the competition. Now, Sheen is helping ABC for a change.
ABC News has landed an exclusive interview with the troubled actor and will air it on Tuesday night on a special edition of 20/20. The special edition will no doubt get huge ratings.
To make room for the interview, ABC has once again pre-empted Detroit 1-8-7, the network’s lowest-rated scripted series. From a ratings standpoint, just about anything they can put in that timeslot will perform as well or better than Detroit 1-8-7. Last week’s special edition of Primetime garnered a 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.14 million viewers. That’s certainly not a great performance but it is 14% better than the previous episode of Detroit 1-8-7.
As frustrating as this may be to fans of the crime drama, ABC isn’t likely to stop pre-empting it. On the positive side, Detroit 1-8-7 remains on next week’s schedule, for now at least. At this point, the show is all but cancelled and the network is essentially burning off the remaining episodes. There are three episodes left in this season and there’s no way that its coming back for season two.
What do you think? Will ABC get around to airing the three remaining episodes of Detroit 1-8-7?
We love Detroit 187 and hope it gets a second chance.
We couldn’t care less about Charlie Sheen.
My husband and I really like Detroit 1-8-7…..why do you keep removing the good shows?
This is a crying shame. You put this great show in against the best every oter network has to offer and then pre-empt it every other week so no consistancy can be achived. What would you expect. I watched the opening of “Sheen, The Crazy” for about 10 minutes of his drivel then changed channels. I sure was not going to support anything that caused a absence of Detroit 187, Great actors, different setting than NY or LA, great story lines but story lines requiring a tune in the next week. Idiots why would you choose a one time rating… Read more »
I don’t care abc net work but I really enjoy Detroit 187 maybe they should dealt with TNT orA & E any thing but abc
I enjoyed the show and will be very disappointed if ABC cancels this series. Very good acting, very interesting story’s and good action.
Detroit 1-8-7 is such a good show. One of the best that are TV right now. For it not get picked up for another season will be a shame. Michael Imperioli is fantastic as Finch. People who don’t watch it are really missing out.
I could care less about Charlie Sheen, enough already! Detroit 1-8-7 is a great show and if it cancelled this will confirm to me that ABC is over. Who do we contact to help save the show?
I am a BIG fan of Detroit 1-8-7 as well and I am so glad to see that there are others out there who like the show as much as I do. It disturbs me to learn the reason why the show keeps getting bumped for “special editions” of gossip. I wish people would give the show a chance. Otherwise, I hope USA snatches it up…but then the budget will go down and I don’t think the show will be as entertaining.
Detroit 187 is the best show that has been on for a long time, hope they can give it a chance and stop running stuff in its place that no one wants to watch.
I don’t know about any one else, but I enjoyed the show.
It’s alot better than the antics of SHEEN and LOHAN
I too dont watch ABC at all except Detroit 187. This is a fabulous show. And, to pre-empt it with Charlie Sheen? who cares about him. He is a non-entity like Lohan. I hope a cable station picks up Detroit 187. Or, how about this, have CBS replace Two and a Half Men with Detroit 187. Then for sure I never have to watch ABC again.
Tell me about it, if it was not for 1-8-7 and Nascar, I would never watch ABC!!!
I THINK DETROIT 187 IS ONE OF THE BEST NEW SERIES AROUND. I HAVE A FIT WHEN IT GETS PRE-EMPTED. HASN’T “CHARLIE” HAD ENOUGH PUBLICITY, WHICH IS WHAT HE’S GETTING BUT WHAT HE NEEDS IS PROFESSIONAL HELP AND SOON!!
I look forward to a quality show and “VOILA”!!, here’s CHARLIE!…
What’s next–“The Emilio Estevez Comedy Hour”??
Thank you, ABC, for your contributions to the “dumbing down” of America…
THUMBS UP TO DETROIT 1-8-7 !!!
This cop drama overcame some initial poor script writing to become one of the few great programs on the air (is anyone else sick of real housewives from anywhere?). The story lines are captivating and flow and the cast is great. What is ABC thinking? Right, more titilating peek-shows of Charlie Sheen and his porn goddesses…what a train wreck. I hope HBO or Bravo or CW18 – anyone…will pick this up. You guys are right…ABC programming sucks and there is nothing else on that newtwork.
I really don’t watch anything on ABC. They haven’t had anything good on for years.
Like Detroit 187. Sick of Charlie Sheen – every station, every news cast, – publicity for a sick individual. Turned the show off – sick of the trash.
Wow I love the show and read all the comments and did not read one person who did like it, on the page I read. Tell me is there any thing us viewers can do? Email the network? I have no idea but what to do. Only thing abc is good for is the superbowl…
