On Tuesday, ABC pre-empted Detroit 1-8-7 with a special edition of 20/20 in which Diane Sawyer interviewed Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford’s husband about the Tucson shooting. Based on the preliminary ratings for the program, ABC made a good choice. It attracted a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.18 million total viewers. While those aren’t great numbers, they’re a 30% improvement over last week’s episode of Detroit 1-8-7 (1.0 in the demo with 5.05 million).
Next week, the cop drama will be replaced by the annual State of the Union address. Right now, Detroit 1-8-7 is scheduled to return on February 1st but one has to wonder if that will actually happen. ABC has a track record of pre-empting low-rated shows with the intention of bringing them back but it just never happens.
The network has ordered 18 installments of Detroit 1-8-7 and 12 of those have aired so far. It would seem like a waste not to air the remaining six but the same could be said for the leftover seven episodes of The Whole Truth. If ABC can keep coming up with specials that will perform better, we may likely have seen the last of low-rated Detroit 1-8-7.
What do you think? Will Detroit 1-8-7 return to the regular schedule or lost in hiatus and cancelled?

Please do not cancel Detroit 187….I love this show!
go ahead and cancel another winner, you loser station!!
This is one of the best new shows that have come along on ABC in years. There is not very much left to watch on TV these days. I am an avid Law and Order fan and this show makes me tune in no matter what my plans are, not many other shows can do that.
PLEASE do not cancel Detroit 187! My husband & I love this show. It’s as good as Blue Bloods!!!
KEEP IT. KEEP IT. KEEP IT.
Geesh execs get it right.
Detroit 1-8-7 rules! Not only is it a drama cop show, but the writers have thrown in a couple of quirky characters that make you laugh. Enough of the reality shows, lets show our support of this show.
What the hell are they thinking this is a great show the guy who said the cast didn’t fit in
the Detroit PD is full of it. I grew up in Detroit and have many friends who were and still
are on the force. The show was what TV was missing to fill the cop drama spot I’d hold it right up there with NYPD Blue Cagney & Lacey and all the rest. It was a good change of pace not to see another cop show from NY or Chicago
My husband I love Detroit 187 and would be very upset to have it cancelled. The writing is excellent and the characters are very interesting and have been slowly developing along with the weekly story lines. It never ceases to amaze us when a great new show comes along and within a short time there is talk of cancellation. With all the terrible reality shows that are renewed season after season ad nausea we cannot support ABC as our station to watch if Detroit 187 is cancelled. Please don’t do it, give the cast and writers more time . We… Read more »
LOVE the show, it’s gritty and good. Live in Detroit and love seeing the background and sky scrapes familiar to me.
Please do not cancel this show. I really look forward to watching it along with my mom (she’s the one who got me hooked). Not only does Detroit 1-8-7 have an excellent cast with evident chemistry, but it also has a great sense of humor amidst the drama. That’s what I enjoy most about it. Just give it at least one more season. It’s right up there with “Law and Order.” I know I’ll keep watching it.
Love this show. It’s no wonder why regular TV is losing out to cable-they keep canceling great shows ie “Pushing Daisies”
Detroit 1-8-7 is a totally awesome show with great actors. I would boycott if cancelled…I can’t believe with all the crummy shows on TV this show would be axed
I look forward to waching only two shows each week. The Big Bang Theory and Detroit 187. Please give it another year.
Please do NOT cancel this show. It is the best cop show since NYPD Blue. Michael Imperioli is fantastic. Detroit 187 just gets better and better, please consider giving it another season.
I agree with Linda Roberts, I also quit Good Wife and watch 1-8-7. I would boycott ABC cause all they have are reality shows most nights.
My husband & I only watch Detroit 187 and The Mentalist together. Please don’t break up our “date night”. Since we were avid watchers of NYPD Blue – we love this show. DON’T CANCEL, please.
