On Tuesday, ABC pre-empted Detroit 1-8-7 with a special edition of 20/20 in which Diane Sawyer interviewed Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford’s husband about the Tucson shooting. Based on the preliminary ratings for the program, ABC made a good choice. It attracted a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.18 million total viewers. While those aren’t great numbers, they’re a 30% improvement over last week’s episode of Detroit 1-8-7 (1.0 in the demo with 5.05 million).
Next week, the cop drama will be replaced by the annual State of the Union address. Right now, Detroit 1-8-7 is scheduled to return on February 1st but one has to wonder if that will actually happen. ABC has a track record of pre-empting low-rated shows with the intention of bringing them back but it just never happens.
The network has ordered 18 installments of Detroit 1-8-7 and 12 of those have aired so far. It would seem like a waste not to air the remaining six but the same could be said for the leftover seven episodes of The Whole Truth. If ABC can keep coming up with specials that will perform better, we may likely have seen the last of low-rated Detroit 1-8-7.
What do you think? Will Detroit 1-8-7 return to the regular schedule or lost in hiatus and cancelled?

I love this show and am so sick of seeing 20/20 or something about Charlie Sheen in it’s place.
I will be so disappointed if this show doesn’t come back.
Look forward to watching Detroit 1-8-7 , well written, great actors, but yet ABC replaces it with special reports, etc…. I will be watching other networks…. I am tired of getting sucked in too a show just to be left in the dark each week. NOT A HAPPY VIEWER !
LEAVE THE SHOW ON GIVE IT A CHANCE. IT IS WELL WRITTEN AND ACTED
ABC always makes dumb choices. Detroit 187 is the best new show they have. I care about the characters. It reminds me of the old show Baltimore life on the streets. It is very well written. I will not watch what ever the put in that time slot. Give the show a chance please
I can not believe they are canceling this show!!! IT WAS THE BEST TV SHOW ON IN YEARS!!! Do you think I want to hear about Chalie Sheen and his drugs~ NO!! Come on channel 6 or I am going to boycott your station!!!
I really liked watching the show think it is well done with good character protrayals
and i will not watch 20/20 or some other crap
thanks
187 is the best show on television. The writers, actors and location are great. it would be a shame not to give the show a chance. I never miss it. I have not been this into a TV show since NYPD Blue.
1-8-7 is one of the best written shows on today. I will definitely miss this show if it goes.
I hope that the show returns. It had great actors and interesting stories.
Detroit 187 is one of the best new shows. The cast is good and the episodes interesting. They should bring it back maybe the spot against the Good Wife is too tough. That doesn’t seem fair
It would be a shame to cancel Det 187..the show has great writers and is highly enertaining..I normally don”t watch cop shows but this doesn’t drag on like alot them do they keep the story moving..
I think ABC should not cancel Detroit 187, but change the air time. I watch Parenthood live, then watch 187 and Good Wife online. These are few non cable show I care about and these three are all at the same time. 187 is well written and could prove to do well in another time slot. ABC has so few good programs and they will miss the boat letting this go.
Think ABC should rethink cancelling Detroit 187. We watch it every week on demand and also think it is by far the best show on television. Does ABC remember NYPD Blue? Seems they thought the same thing about cancelling that show and look what happen there.
I will be so upset if Detroit 187 is cancelled….it is definitely the best show on TV this year. We NEVER miss by either watching or it is on auto record!! Please keep it on the air . ABC should give their shows more time to get the audience …
I am getting tired of ABC and the way they cancel shows. If this show is cancelled, I intend to stop watching new shows on ABC.
