On Tuesday, ABC pre-empted Detroit 1-8-7 with a special edition of 20/20 in which Diane Sawyer interviewed Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford’s husband about the Tucson shooting. Based on the preliminary ratings for the program, ABC made a good choice. It attracted a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.18 million total viewers. While those aren’t great numbers, they’re a 30% improvement over last week’s episode of Detroit 1-8-7 (1.0 in the demo with 5.05 million).
Next week, the cop drama will be replaced by the annual State of the Union address. Right now, Detroit 1-8-7 is scheduled to return on February 1st but one has to wonder if that will actually happen. ABC has a track record of pre-empting low-rated shows with the intention of bringing them back but it just never happens.
The network has ordered 18 installments of Detroit 1-8-7 and 12 of those have aired so far. It would seem like a waste not to air the remaining six but the same could be said for the leftover seven episodes of The Whole Truth. If ABC can keep coming up with specials that will perform better, we may likely have seen the last of low-rated Detroit 1-8-7.
What do you think? Will Detroit 1-8-7 return to the regular schedule or lost in hiatus and cancelled?

They screwed up on the reality when they went into Canada. Get involved with the suburbs. Put the show on at an earlier hour. Great cast get out and promote the damn thing. ABC just seems to give half measures to things. This was a great idea and would have worked with a little effort. Come on guys you have an investment here don’t piss it away
I agree, Good show, bad network. Put this show in a good time slot on a noght other than Tuesday so it is not up against NCIS and it would kick ass. ABC = Anything But Commonsence
Please just switch Detroit 187 to Wednesday. It is in a losing battle on Tuesday night! It is a great show with a great cast!!! Please at least show the last 6 episodes!!!!!!!
PLEASE DON’T CANCEL THIS SHOW….
It would be unfortunate to have the show leave the air. I’m especially dissappointed that it is pre-empted by an interview with a low class person this week.
This show is the absolute BEST new show. The character of Fitch is a work of art. I can’t understand how these reality shows make it and a quality show like this gets canceled. Go Figure….
Figures – the good ones are always cancelled – I have not missed an episode of Detroit 187 and would love to see it come back.
Hoping
Detroit 187 is a phenomenal show. Keep it going.
Please do not cancel the show. It is the best show on TV.
Must we add it to the list of great drama no longer available.
West Wing, NYPD Blue, Boston Legal etc.
We need more intelligent tv and less banal reality programs.
Please, please do not cancel this show. I love it. ABC is really irritating. I will stop watching any new shows on that network since they just cancel whatever they want with no loyalty to viewers.
There is no better cop show on network TV, please bring it back.
This is a good show on a bad network. ABC should sell the show to a better network like CBS or NBC.
PLEASE PLEASE, keep this show going! Too good to scrape LJ
Detroit 187 is one of the better cop shows. The problem is that there are two other good shows on at the same time. I don’t understand why the networks pit good shows against one another. Try putting it on at another time/day. You are making a huge mistake cancelling this show. We watch it every week and record Good Wife and Parenthood.
