On Tuesday, ABC pre-empted Detroit 1-8-7 with a special edition of 20/20 in which Diane Sawyer interviewed Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford’s husband about the Tucson shooting. Based on the preliminary ratings for the program, ABC made a good choice. It attracted a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.18 million total viewers. While those aren’t great numbers, they’re a 30% improvement over last week’s episode of Detroit 1-8-7 (1.0 in the demo with 5.05 million).
Next week, the cop drama will be replaced by the annual State of the Union address. Right now, Detroit 1-8-7 is scheduled to return on February 1st but one has to wonder if that will actually happen. ABC has a track record of pre-empting low-rated shows with the intention of bringing them back but it just never happens.
The network has ordered 18 installments of Detroit 1-8-7 and 12 of those have aired so far. It would seem like a waste not to air the remaining six but the same could be said for the leftover seven episodes of The Whole Truth. If ABC can keep coming up with specials that will perform better, we may likely have seen the last of low-rated Detroit 1-8-7.
What do you think? Will Detroit 1-8-7 return to the regular schedule or lost in hiatus and cancelled?

when Will ABC Learn Detroit 187 Is something that will save the network….. I almost never watch ABC But I found this show and did not take me long to rush to watch it.. At the Rate ABC is going I will never Start watching anything on the network because they always cancel the best one so Dam fast….
This is the best crime drama on TV that far too many dont know about. I blame ABC for that……A great cast and photography is excellent. Solid scripts. ABC needs to renew and support this undiscovered gem.
I like Detroit 1-8-7 because it looks real the cops are not just cute guys, with muscles, they look like ordinary cops and I also like it because it is not shot in LA, or Santa Clarita, CA pretending to be Detroit. I love the last episodes where the cast is dealing with all the snow it is Awsome, so real !!! I hate it when I get hooked with one good show and then it is canceled.
Detroit 187 one of the better shows on ABC. Programing suits would be idiots to cancel this show. The show was not given a chance because of it being preempted by specials. This is why network tv is going to end up like the newspapers.
I like the show. I like the characters and the storylines that go with them. Finally there’s a show that doesn’t need to show graphic violence to still be able to tell the story. I would like to see another season!
I don’t mean to grovel, but you got to air the remainder of the series. My hubby and I just love this program….we hated the preemptions……We love the interaction between partners. Great to see Michael back on the screen and how his personal tale is unfolding. Don’t let this series die like Officer Stone……..
DETROIT 1-8-7 IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES SO PLEASE ABC, KEEP IT ON BECAUSE A LOT OF PEOPLE LIKE IT AND IT GETS BETTER EVERY WEEK. IT’LL BE A MISTAKE TO TAKE IT OFF THE AIR AFTER ONE SEASON BECAUSE ANOTHER ONE OR TWO WOULD BE AMAZING. GIVE IT A CHANGE AND LET EVERYONE SEE WHAT A GREAT SHOW DETROIT 1-8-7 TRULY IS.
I REALLY LIKE DETROIT 1-8-7. IT IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES. I HOPE THEY DO NOT CANCEL IT. I GREW UP IN DETROIT, AND IT’S GOOD TO SEE SOMETHING REALLY INTERESTING DONE IN THAT CITY AGAIN.
Please do not cancel Detroit 187!!!!! I, along with many of my friends, watch the show every week and love it!
I LOVE this show….the Detroit version of NYPD Blue……would HATE to see it go…
The show is awsome! Detroit needs this show and anything else that will show that the big D is coming back. I have heard that there is no longer any tax credit incentives for the film industry under our new governor. If this has anything to do with the fact that this show may be cancelled, and if this is true, then i am sadly disappointed along with many others Please let us veiwers enjoy all the emotions {too many to mention} we feel watching this show and be proud that a show of this magnitude is filmed in the… Read more »
I love Detroit 187! PLEASE ABC, BRING IT BACK! YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY!
Great show
For myself and many of my friends, this is the best show on television
Love the show. Just have to give it a chance. It grows and gets better every week. Just think if they hadn’t given Seinfeld a chance.
i love the show and really hope it isn’t cancelled. michael imperoli is great and surrounded by a solid cast
I really like Detroit 187. Finally, something shot only in Detroit. The city that’s been forgotten. The usual 2 separate cases going on is intriguing. I liked at the beginning when
they put the case name and where they were on the bottom left side. First time a show was considerate enough to help people follow the stories. I love the actors and the setting. I will be very sad to see this show go and for the people of Detroit. I know this has brought revenue in this city.
