ABC has decided to run the season (likely series) finale of Detroit 1-8-7 this Sunday, March 20th, at 10pm. The freshman drama is airing on a special night because it was pre-empted by a 20/20 special featuring an interview with Charlie Sheen a couple weeks ago.
Detroit 1-8-7 is, of course, highly unlikely to return for season two. The TV series’ ratings have been terrible and just about anything else the network has put on in its place has performed better. It’s currently averaging a very disappointing 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.64 million viewers. That makes Detroit 1-8-7 the lowest-rated scripted series still on the network. Tuesday’s installment registered just a 1.2 in the demo.
Here’s the finale description from ABC:
SEASON FINALE
FITCH FACES OFF AGAINST HIS RUTHLESS NEW YORK ADVERSARY, ALBERT STRAM, WHILE HIS LIFE, THAT OF HIS SON AND THE REST OF THE SQUAD HANG IN THE BALANCE, ON THE SEASON FINALE OF ABC’S “DETROIT 1-8-7” Michael Imperioli’s Real Life Son, Vadim, Continues in His Guest Starring Role as Fitch’s Son, Bobby
“Blackout” – Fitch’s past comes back to haunt him when his old New York nemesis, Albert Stram, makes his presence known in Detroit just as the veteran detective is enjoying spending time with his son, Bobby. Stram’s not so subtle threats shake the usually unflappable Fitch. Meanwhile, the other detectives are called to the scene of a horrific homicide to find an entire family brutally murdered. Fitch tries to put the pieces of the puzzle together and it leads him to a devastating conclusion. With his back against the wall, Fitch asks Washington to protect Bobby, then leads Longford and Mahajan on an extremely dangerous mission to trap Stram; but which side of the law will he come down on in order to save his family and those in the squad? Meanwhile, Longford has second thoughts about his retirement; but is it too late? It’s a crucial turning point in the lives of all the detectives, on the Season Finale of “Detroit 1-8-7,” SUNDAY, MARCH 20 (10:01-11:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

What do you think? Why do you think this TV series didn’t catch on? What worked? What didn’t?

Being from Chicgo, most Chi Towns cop shows would be a first pick, but Chicago Code is not even a clsoe second to 187! C’mon ABC give it another chance, Dana Delaney as the ME, no way, too much like crossing Jordan! Detroit 187 great TV!
I’m sorry to see it end. I loved it!!!!! Bring it back.
This is a show that improved with each episode. The characters are compelling and getting more and more complex–and that’s a good thing. It has become a character driven show in the same way that Homicide was and that’s a huge compliment. Homicide was cancelled too soon and I fear the same for Detroit 187. C’mon!
Talk about “dumbing things down.” Why would anyone cancel this series? It is one of the best shows I’ve seen in ages. I love all the “Castles” etc., but this show was so much more believable than junk that is all over the tube. AND to see Michael Imperioli interact with his own son was spine-tingling. Great cast, Great stories, Great Nitty-Gritty.
I’m 75 . I started watching Detroit because I once lived in and loved that city. Often, I dislike any show with violence. BUT this show was the best show of any kind. Well-written scripts,
wonderful twists and turns and terrific, flawless cast. Gritty & compelling. Would love to see it return another seaason.
The Best Cop Show since the Shield!!!!
I think this is a great show, the weekly stories are great..I think the can just change the day or time of program because it interferes with “the Good Wife on abc”. They should give it another season on Wednesday or Thursday nights or change time to 9:00pm on Tuesday…I will really miss the show…
My wife and I love the show, but it is difficult to compete with mindless programs written to IQ level of an eighth grader.
Seriously? I really liked this show. Good character development, believable plots for the most part. Had a difficult time finding it as they kept changing up the air dates. Cancelling this show is a big mistake…Oh yeah right, decision making has nothing to do with reality as far as the networks go.
The acting, writing, and characters were far superior to the junk that competed with 187 as well as a huge percentage of the crap on TV in general that is not in the cancellation process. I will miss the show if it doesn’t come back.
If they don’t bring it back it will be sad. One of the best shows I have seen in a long time. Looked forward to it each Tues.
Please bring it back!
I think this is a great show, love the music and the characters and every bit as good or better than blue bloods etc.
The show was great…..BRING IT BACK!!!!!!!
The very best “cop” show I have ever seen, and I am 60.
I fear the city name, Detroit, is what hurt viewership.
The best show hands down!! No other tv show has caught my attention like Detroit 187. It deserves another chance because it is the best!
