ABC has decided to run the season (likely series) finale of Detroit 1-8-7 this Sunday, March 20th, at 10pm. The freshman drama is airing on a special night because it was pre-empted by a 20/20 special featuring an interview with Charlie Sheen a couple weeks ago.
Detroit 1-8-7 is, of course, highly unlikely to return for season two. The TV series’ ratings have been terrible and just about anything else the network has put on in its place has performed better. It’s currently averaging a very disappointing 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.64 million viewers. That makes Detroit 1-8-7 the lowest-rated scripted series still on the network. Tuesday’s installment registered just a 1.2 in the demo.
Here’s the finale description from ABC:
SEASON FINALE
FITCH FACES OFF AGAINST HIS RUTHLESS NEW YORK ADVERSARY, ALBERT STRAM, WHILE HIS LIFE, THAT OF HIS SON AND THE REST OF THE SQUAD HANG IN THE BALANCE, ON THE SEASON FINALE OF ABC’S “DETROIT 1-8-7” Michael Imperioli’s Real Life Son, Vadim, Continues in His Guest Starring Role as Fitch’s Son, Bobby
“Blackout” – Fitch’s past comes back to haunt him when his old New York nemesis, Albert Stram, makes his presence known in Detroit just as the veteran detective is enjoying spending time with his son, Bobby. Stram’s not so subtle threats shake the usually unflappable Fitch. Meanwhile, the other detectives are called to the scene of a horrific homicide to find an entire family brutally murdered. Fitch tries to put the pieces of the puzzle together and it leads him to a devastating conclusion. With his back against the wall, Fitch asks Washington to protect Bobby, then leads Longford and Mahajan on an extremely dangerous mission to trap Stram; but which side of the law will he come down on in order to save his family and those in the squad? Meanwhile, Longford has second thoughts about his retirement; but is it too late? It’s a crucial turning point in the lives of all the detectives, on the Season Finale of “Detroit 1-8-7,” SUNDAY, MARCH 20 (10:01-11:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

I certainly hope Detroit 187 gets a second season. It is my husband’s and my favorite new series. We love the casting and the characters and think it just needs some time and the right publicity to turn the ratings around.
detroit 187 is an excellent show with very good acting and good writing it needs a chance to be sen by more people another season without constant pre-emting woild definetly help. hope it comes back!!!!!!!
The last episode was terrific. I just don’t understand the low ratings of this series. It has excellent actors, great story lines, characters you want to get to know more about after each episode. Maybe it just needs a different night. I am keeping my fingers crossed that if ABC doesn’t renew this that one of the cable channels will. it was one of my favorite shows and I looked forward to it each week.
This is the best new series along with Chicago Code. Every aspect of it excels. The show will perform better as the audience discovers it. Going against The Good Wife spells disaster for any show, so put Detroit 187 into another time slot to give it a fair chance.
I really enjoyed this show and watched the whole season. I would agree with one of the other comments: abc did not promote this show well enough. Perhaps it would do better on another night. Please bring it back for season 2.
Please reconsider the cancellation D187. It is the best cop show since
NYPD Blue
one of the best new shows this season. Lets make sure that there is a season 2.
please do not remove this show! It is fantastic!! I have only missed one episode of the entire season!! I love the drama the intrigue, the characters are growing!! I also watch Southland, Criminal Minds, The Closer… these are the TV shows I watch!! It is the best cop show since NYPD Blue which still has yet to release any DVD’s beyond season 4.
There are a lot of people who are clamoring for more of this and less Bachelor (reality show bunk!) Please keep this show going!!
Thanks!
Detroit 187 is one of the best series I have seen in years. Great characters that are believable. No more reality shows PLEASE. ABC has a good one if they would promote it and stop moving it around so people can find it. This good show can be a great show if they let it evolve.
What a retarded article, I just read last week the Tuesday line-up with No Ordinary Family and V, plus Detroit 187, Detroit 187 had the most viewers, and yes, there is a good chance 187 will return, damn journalist!! UUGGHHH
@Marine: Sorry but you’re wrong.
BEST SHOW THIS SEASON
My husband and I LOVE this show and hope ABC does what NBC did with “Hill St. Blues” and give it the chance of another season.
ABC needs to do a better job promoting it and the publicity department needs to get it out there!!
The show is well written and the cast does a great job !
best show on tv
I am a fan of Detroit 187 and have stayed with the show as the characters have developed and the acting and writing improved. However I am very disappointed in The Blackout finale episode. The episode started rather choppy with Fitch over acting to Stram’s melodramatic threats. Then it started to go downhill rapidly during the scene when Longford and Mahjan “arrest” Stram’s bodyguards; the ringing of Longford’s cell phone broke a potentially intense dramatic scene for no good reason and with clumsy timing by the writers/director. The amateurish placement of the murder weapon on the passive bodyguards was so… Read more »
Mike, I think the writers knew this was the end and they hurriedly tied up all the loose ends for us. Not exactly plausible or sophisticated , but at least we weren’t left hanging, like at the end of Dirty Sexy Money or Las Vegas. The “soda” joke at the end was a nice way of saying, “Goodbye and thanks for watching.”
Please do NOT cancel. Great series, great cast, great writing and story lines. Just give it time for viewers to take a peek.
