It sounds like Doc Martin is hanging up the stethoscope. In a recent interview with Radio Times, star Martin Clunes revealed the ITV series will end with season nine.
Created by Dominic Minghella, the long-running UK medical dramedy stars Clunes as the only doctor in a small Cornish village. The cast also includes Caroline Catz, Ian McNeice, Joe Absolom, John Marquez, and Selina Cadell.
In the interview, Clunes said season eight begins filming this spring and it will be the second to last season:
We start making [series 8] in spring and it’ll probably be on air in the autumn. So [series 8] is the second to last.”
Season eight of Doc Martin is expected to air in the UK on ITV this fall, with the ninth and final season expected to premiere in 2018.
What do you think? Do you watch Doc Martin? Are you sad it’s ending?
This series is even funnier.. I laugh out loud..its hilarious….why stop something sooo funny…theres not much on these days that is so laugh out loud !! Dont end it please !!
I will be very sad when the series ends. We have seen two good but seriously flawed people continuously bumping into walls instead of each other. As Luisa says at the end of Season 7, “You’re not normal; I’m not”. And, of course, all of us are “Damaged goods”, to various extents. If only we could see our own limitations, and their origins, as clearly as we can see theirs. I think about the show very often, in a serious way—it does not get better than that. Of course, the comedic skills of the entire cast are extraordinary. I chuckle… Read more »
I will be so sorry to see the series end. Beyond the particular circumstances of the characters, we see two good but seriously disabled people continuously bumping into walls instead of each other. As Luisa says in the last episode of Series 7, “You’re not normal; I’m not.” So, they are just like all of us, “Damaged goods”, to varying degrees. If only we could see our own limitations, and their origins, as clearly as we can see theirs. I think about the show very often, in a serious way—it does not get better than that. Oh no! I will sorely miss all the characters. I’m truly sad it is ending. Any chance they will reconsider?
Jesus! I just found this series in the past year and now it’s cancelled! It makes me laugh out loud sometimes which doesn’t happen much. My favourite show.
Wonderful! And a job so well done and wonderful run! I re-watch and re-watch from the beginning.
I will miss this show when it ends. It is one of my favorites!
Having watched Ep.1 of Season 9, I am reminded of Ecclesiastes – to every thing there is a season. The last eight seasons of Doc Martin have given much pleasure, but this latest (in Australia) episode seemed a little strained… I think the writers are possibly running out of ideas, or else the cast is getting tired. It will be sad farewell to the series, though, and well done to all involved for much pleasure.
Greatly saddened by the new of the series ending! What a delightful show (witty, humorous, well written, and a superb cast). I hope the series will to be available as reruns on Netflix and PBS.
So sorry!! Still trying to view season 7 via WHRO Norfolk, Va; not much of a TV person but loved this show!!!
