It sounds like Doc Martin is hanging up the stethoscope. In a recent interview with Radio Times, star Martin Clunes revealed the ITV series will end with season nine.
Created by Dominic Minghella, the long-running UK medical dramedy stars Clunes as the only doctor in a small Cornish village. The cast also includes Caroline Catz, Ian McNeice, Joe Absolom, John Marquez, and Selina Cadell.
In the interview, Clunes said season eight begins filming this spring and it will be the second to last season:
We start making [series 8] in spring and it’ll probably be on air in the autumn. So [series 8] is the second to last.”
Season eight of Doc Martin is expected to air in the UK on ITV this fall, with the ninth and final season expected to premiere in 2018.

Such a great show! Wonderful characters, even if Doc is different from the character he portrayed in the prequel movies!
My husband and I really love The Doc Martin show and would love to see it continue. We watch it thru Acorn TV and we agree with others that say there is better shows like this than what we have available in the US.
We watch mostly shows from the UK, Australia and Canada.
We’re hoping to vacation next year where this series is shot.
only a very few great shows on t.v. and doc martin is one of them – should go at least 12 years – use the last 3 years making doc martin some what normal

I love Doc Martin!! Please don’t cancel this show. I am planning a trip to England and am going to visit Port Wayne!! The whole cast is wonderful and I feel like they all are my friends. Give them all my love please. Even the giggling girls.
Doc Martin is my favorite show to watch on TV. I hope they change their minds about cancelling it with Season Nine. It is just a very nice show that I look forward to watching every week. Doc Martin and the whole cast are superb actors. Don’t do it !!!!
Absolutely love this show! I have just recently binge watched all 6 seasons that are on Netflix. A landscape scene from the village is my wallpaper on my phone. Keep this show going!
I am so engaged with the characters of this show, my husband and I will be sad when it ends. It is by far one of the most memorable series and enjoyable to watch.
