It looks like the magic is over for the three ladies of Eastwick. ABC network has decided against ordering any additional episodes of the supernatural series, effectively cancelling it.
Eastwick revolves around three women (Rebecca Romijn, Lindsay Price, and Jaime Ray Newman) who meet at a wishing fountain and become friends. Soonafter, mysterious Darryl Van Horne (Paul Gross) moves to town and unleashes powers within the ladies. The cast also includes Ashley Benson, Johann Urb, Jon Bernthal, Sara Rue, and Veronica Cartwright.
The show got off to a slow start on September 23rd with a 3.0 rating in the 18-49 demo and 8.5 million total viewers. The second installment fell to a 2.3 in the demo and 6.57 million viewers. The third week fell again to a 1.8 and 5.14 million.

In the weeks that followed, the ratings didn’t get any better and more frequently got worse. Last week, Eastwick hit an all-time low of 1.5 in the demo and 4.4 million.
ABC has opted to pull the show from the schedule for two weeks. This Wednesday, it’s replaced by the Country Music Awards. Next week, it’s being bumped for an interview special called In the Spotlight with Robin Roberts: Janet Jackson. Though Eastwick is scheduled to return on Thanksgiving eve with a new episode, the supernatural drama won’t be around for long after that.
ABC has decided not to order any additional episodes of Eastwick, effectively cancelling the series after 13 episodes. It’s unknown if the last episode will wrap up the ongoing storylines. For now, ABC plans to air all six remaining installments but, if the ratings keep declining, the network could easily pull the series before that happens.
What do you think? Why did Eastwick fail? Do you think ABC will really air all of the 13 episodes?

i HATE you. eastwick is such an interesting and fun show. i do not want them to cancel it 🙁 this is all because its in a bad time slot. all my friends WOULD watch it, but its on at 11, and we have school the next day. i am the only one who actually stays up to watch it. ugh. i hate this.
There are always bit torrents for missed episodes, so what you don’t give them a few cents for commercials there are people devoting their time to posting all the episodes on the net for you.
If you’re so worried about the money, here’s a “novel” idea ABC…why don’t you grow a brain and learn from cable? Try doing 13 episode-season arcs and PROMOTE them! Try that first, huh. Oh, I’m sorry. That would make too much SENSE wouldn’t it?! (Nevermind that Eastwick deserved a 22-episode FULLY-PROMOTED season.) You, ABC, are about to be over-run by COMCAST formerly NBC/Universal or haven’t you heard?! (smug smile). You need to start listening to your VARIED audiences and not just your BIGGEST audiences. You’ll BANK in the long-run. Alas, methinks you are still not listening. Give Eastwick another chance….OR…to… Read more »
I hope abc is courteous enough to at least air the final episodes. The network should at least be a little loyal to the viewers who did tune in and allow us to see what was scheduled to air. I do not understand how shows like The Bachelor stay on the air for so many years and shows that are actually entertaining (Eli Stone, Pushing Daisies) do not make it.
Eastwick was one of the most exciting shows to come to TV in a long time. For the short time it’s been on, my heart beat everytime I sat down to watch it, that’s how exciting I thought it was. My son and all my friends felt the same way, we could not wait until the next week to find out what would happen next. I have been dissapointed by cancelled shows before that I have enjoyed, but never in my history of watching Tv, and I am fifty six years old, have I ever been as dissapointed as I… Read more »
I understand that ABC is all about ratings, but don’t you owe it to the fans of the show to at least let the story develop b4 you cancel it? I thought ABC had a really strong lineup and that this show was the anchor for wed. nights. guess i was wrong, but don’t pull this show until you at least give it a good ending. You are just going to end up w/ a lot of pissed off viewers who end up not watching this channel at all b/c you are too stupid to leave the good shows on.… Read more »
I love this show. They just didn’t promote it enough. Dump all those reality shows, they suck and I don’t ever plan to watch any of them. Save this show, if people knew the stars that are in this show, they would watch it. I hope they shop it around to another net work. There is more to life than CSI and Law and order shows.
The problem is they got a crappy time slot, 10PM is just too late! I really liked the show but didn’t watch it most times because it was just on too late. Shame on ABC for not giving it a fair chance!
My wife and I love this show. Finally, a network puts on something well written with good charactor development that portrays women in a strong role and they cancel it before it has a chance to develop an audience. This is why network television will be gone in a few years. The suits that make the decisions have no brains and wouldn’t know a good show if it bit them on the ass. I guess these are the same people that passed on Mad Men and The Sons of Anarchy. The good news is that the peg-heads like the ones… Read more »
I’m sick of the reality shows also (as one of the others commented). Its too bad they’ve decided to cancel Eastwick. In the past there have been shows that had a slow start, but some exec. decided to nurture and give them a chance to grow. Eastwick has smart language, plus I like the blend of several generations of female characters. The women are strong, opinionated, proud of and own their sexuality. I also like the diversity of characters, a chunky chick, who is more than a one dimensional person, and now a young African American man. I wonder if… Read more »
ABC is consistently idiotic in their programming. They order good shows then effectively set them up to fail. Case in point, Pushing Daisies. They put them on in a time slot that would get preempted by Dancing with the Has-Beens…so no one EVER really knew when it was going to be shown! The same was true for Eastwick…another GREAT, well-done and well-acted and very entertaining show! I was glad to hear that Eastwick was being produced but when I heard that ABC had picked it up, I groaned out loud, knowing that the grave was already being dug! ABC Programming… Read more »
My wife and I really enjoyed the show, we looked forward to it every week, why is it that they always cancel the shows that are entertaing and fun to watch, I get so tired of shows that are always depicting murder, rape and sexual abuse, there is enough of that in the real world without having it for entertainment also!!! at least this was a little bit of
fantasy and it was entertaing to watch!
I LOVE THIS SHOW , WHY DOES ALL THE GOOD SHOWS GET CANCELLED SO THOSE STUPID REALITY CRAP SHOWS CAN BORE US TO DEATH ? WHATS UP WITH THAT ,,,,I WOULD MUCH RATHER HAVE WATCHED EASTWICK ,OVER THAT BORRRRING INTERVIEW WITH MS. JACKSON . GUESS I’LL HAVE TO SEARCH ON ANOTHER CHANNEL FOR SOMETHING AMUSING TO WATCH , I DOUBT I’LL FIND IT ON ABC!!!
So sorry to see this program go. It is the one show that I look forward to watching each week. Not all the blood and gore, but I guess that’s what sells.
Eastwick needs a chance to expand. It is a great show and one of the few I pride myself in watching every week.
