It looks like the magic is over for the three ladies of Eastwick. ABC network has decided against ordering any additional episodes of the supernatural series, effectively cancelling it.
Eastwick revolves around three women (Rebecca Romijn, Lindsay Price, and Jaime Ray Newman) who meet at a wishing fountain and become friends. Soonafter, mysterious Darryl Van Horne (Paul Gross) moves to town and unleashes powers within the ladies. The cast also includes Ashley Benson, Johann Urb, Jon Bernthal, Sara Rue, and Veronica Cartwright.
The show got off to a slow start on September 23rd with a 3.0 rating in the 18-49 demo and 8.5 million total viewers. The second installment fell to a 2.3 in the demo and 6.57 million viewers. The third week fell again to a 1.8 and 5.14 million.

In the weeks that followed, the ratings didn’t get any better and more frequently got worse. Last week, Eastwick hit an all-time low of 1.5 in the demo and 4.4 million.
ABC has opted to pull the show from the schedule for two weeks. This Wednesday, it’s replaced by the Country Music Awards. Next week, it’s being bumped for an interview special called In the Spotlight with Robin Roberts: Janet Jackson. Though Eastwick is scheduled to return on Thanksgiving eve with a new episode, the supernatural drama won’t be around for long after that.
ABC has decided not to order any additional episodes of Eastwick, effectively cancelling the series after 13 episodes. It’s unknown if the last episode will wrap up the ongoing storylines. For now, ABC plans to air all six remaining installments but, if the ratings keep declining, the network could easily pull the series before that happens.
What do you think? Why did Eastwick fail? Do you think ABC will really air all of the 13 episodes?

Read this one through if you would folks…it begins with the film, “Nine”, but addresses what ABC has done to “Eastwick” and “Pushing Daisies”. By the way, didn’t you just love the reaction of Lyndsay Price when Kat and Roxie were at the bar and she told them about her powers…she sorta dropped behind the bar, all embarrassed and all you could see were her hands, I just thought that was pricelessly hilarous!!! And that scene when Kat was trying to calm herself down before she “blew her husband and date over the balcony”? Jamie Ray Newman was just great… Read more »
Eastwick – a show with a great cast and a unique concept being pummeled by a network in favor of the plodding and predictable. When I mentioned to friends that the show was going under, all but one had never heard of it. Eastwick is clearly the victim of inept PR and an even worse tie slot. A loss for all of us that didn’t need to be.
My daughter and I like Eastwick a lot. I can’t believe it’s ending. We would love it to continue. The actors are appealing, the show is interesting, the magic is …. MAGICAL.
how about reconsidering?
I agree. They always cancel the good, refreshing shows to play to the dumbed down audience. I am so sick of cops shows (never actually watch them), doctors, and lawyers. We also liked Pushing Daisies…refreshing wonderfully quirky…cancelled. Like Joan of Arcadia…cancelled. I also agree ABC did NOT promote this show at all. Not sure why. Well, I guess what’s done is done, but we wish they wouldn’t cancel it.
My husband and son have been watching this show w/me since the very start, we have even followed it when we’ve been out-of-town. We have loved the story basis….w/all the crazy crappy shows that make it…how could this one NOT??!!! Gorgeous people w/a great show…don’t take it away!!!!
Maybe if they had been vampires people would have watched! They didn’t promote the show enough at all, I stumbled upon it one night after watching Cougar Town, which has been promoted EXTREMELY well, and instantly became a fan. People always like supernatural television shows, if they would have done a better job at promoting and maybe have given it a 7 o’clock slot, it would have done better! Advertising Strategy ABC, work on it!!
This is one of the best shows on TV right now! Great Cast! Please don’t cancel this show. Try a different timeslot – I agree that trying to compete with a CSI is tough because the CSI’s have been around for so long. Please re-think this!
Please don’t end Eastwick!!!!!!! I LOVE this show! What’s going to happen to KAt and her kids???? Is Joanna going to get her job back and fall in love???? What about Roxie????? And did they all die in. The season finale??????? I HATE cliff hangers. At least if you are going to end th show tie up the loose ends!!!!!
@Jesi: There are three more episodes. One is scheduled for 12/30. The other two are not scheduled and sadly may not be shown for quite awhile.
I Love Eastwick! I really hate that they are going to cancel it. I agree always the same old stuff on t.v. cops, and reality shows and doctor or lawyers. Hope ABC reconsiders or another network picks it up. PLEASE!!
In NYC I see a listing for a Dec 30th showing of a new Eastwick episode.
I thought Eastwick was a fun, charming show, but it had formidable competition with CSI:NY on opposite. I taped both of them, but I’ve got the CSI episodes piled up on my DVR because I’ve been watching Eastwick! I was hoping Eastwick would last a while, but I guess it was too quirky and unique for most humdrum TV viewers. And for humdrum ABC to support it.
Out of all the shows on TV right now- this was the only one I liked. Sure it was a little corny at times but I liked that about it. Seems like they always cancel my favorite shows! We are very under- represented if they don’t want to listen to what we want to see on TV. TV has gone downhill so much that you don’t even need cable anymore. Just rent what you want to watch on DVD. The networks are certainly not keeping anything other than the same old cop shows on anymore. And they are all the… Read more »
Clever shows are often dismissed by viewers. Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies, and Eli Stone were three other cute but clever shows that couldn’t get an audience. It’s too bad. On the other hand the whole ratings system stinks and don’t get me started on “seasons” that last 4 episodes. I don’t think the networks give shows enough time. I suppose they got all kinds of hate mail from religious groups about “satanistic” programming! Paul Gross had a great aura of scary menace.
I LOVE EASTWICK!!!! I really hope that ABC changes thier minds or another station like WB picks it up! It’s a great show! It’s just that not everyone can watch it live! It doesn’t make sense that they will cancel Eastwick but keep The Forgotten when the ratings are the same for both shows! KEEP EASTWICK!
my family and i all watched and have enjoyed the show. It did start out slow but has gotten very good. Come on ABC give it a chance.
