The creator of The Office, Ricky Gervais has certainly been keeping busy these days, with big-screen movies like Invention of Lying. But that hasn’t stopped him from considering bringing his award winning comedy, Extras, back to the small screen.
Sky News has reported that the star is tempted to bring the show back, mostly because he’s constantly being approached by big stars who would like to be on it.
Gervais said, “The reason I’d like to do Extras again is because whenever I go to an awards ceremony like the Golden Globes or the Emmys, just ridiculous people come up to me and say they’d like to do Extras and I phone up Steve [Merchant] and say, ‘Oh man, you’ll never guess who wants to be in Extras now’.”
That may come about at some point but, for now, Gervais wants to focus on doing some serious work. He said, “I’m intrigued by drama… That’s why it’s the holy grail in the same sense because nothing really resonates like a really poignant piece of dramatic art.”
Like many comic actors, he’ll probably be quite good at it but let’s hope he keeps doing comedy too. Gervais obviously has a great talent for it, particularly in front of a live audience. Case in point…
Gervais won an Emmy for Extras two years ago but couldn’t attend. He was doing a one-man show in London’s West End. Last year, he was able to attend and he got to take care of a little unfinished business with Steve Carell.
