Family Matters was a staple of the ABC TGIF line-up for eight seasons before it was dropped in 1997. CBS picked up the show for one final season before cancelling it. Reginald VelJohnson starred on the sitcom as Carl Winslow, and he spoke about his career and the popular ABC series during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
VelJohnson remembered his time on Family Matters fondly during the interview, and he is willing to bring the group together one more time.
VelJohnson shared his thoughts on a possible reunion for the series. He said:
“Do people want to see Urkel as a grown man? I don’t know,” he says laughing.
Still, he doesn’t hate the idea of playing Carl Winslow one more time. “Bringing us back together again would be wonderful, and I would love to be a part of something like that,” he says.
VelJohnson also spoke about the popularity of the series, and he said the success of the series was owed to Jaleel White’s character – Steve Urkel — who initially was supposed to appear one time. People remember his character to this day. In fact, White and a wax Urkel are featured in a new television commercial.
Though some believe there was some resentment among the cast about the character’s popularity, VelJohnson said, “If it wasn’t for him, the show wouldn’t have done what it did.”

I loved the TV series Family Matters when it was on !! I would love to see a reunion of this show! I remember how the series always made me laugh so hard that it made a tough day at work worth coming home to see the show.
Sure. Had plenty of good times with the cast, specially with URKEL.
The show was entertaining with the Steve Urkel character, but when it became too much about him, then the show was less so.
