Fargo wrapped its second season on FX earlier this week, and fans are already waiting for season three. There might be a bit of a wait for that third season though.
Noah Hawley spoke about season three with The Hollywood Reporter, and the series may not go into production until next November. This series is a winter series, and there is just not enough time this winter to write and produce the episodes for season three.
Hawley said the following:
“It’s a winter show, for better or worse, and this winter, there is not time to shoot another year before this winter is over. It’s also very important to me and my other producers, I think one of the strengths of the show is that we separate the writing from the production and we really take our time and we break the whole story and we write eight of the 10 hours at least and we end up there knowing exactly what we’re doing, exactly what the whole story is. We’re going through the writing process now. I’ve written the first hour and we’re about half-way through breaking the season and we’ll be writing over the next few months with the idea that we’ll go into production, much like our first year, we’ll be shooting in November and hopefully back on the air in the Spring of 2017.”
That does mean, fans will have a year and a half to wait for the third season of Fargo.
Hawley did tease a bit more about the next season though. Fans will not see familiar faces from season one return for Fargo season three.
He said:
“As much as I love those actors and characters, the dangers of bringing them back and putting them through their paces for another sort of crazy case is that then the artifice of the whole thing becomes too clear and suddenly it just feels like we’re doing it because it’s fun and we like them, but we’ve broken our own rules. That’s not to say that one of our stories might not intersect with characters we’ve seen before for a certain period of time.”

Looking forward to season 3!
willing to wait
Love the show, definitely can wait till spring of 2017 for season three .
YES! But if I have to wait until spring of 17′, make sure it is at least 12 or more episodes.
These shows never seem to realize that even if I love a show, waiting 18 months to bring back the next season makes my interest wane. There’s a lot of stuff to distract me in a year & a half. People have short attention spans & especially with shows like this, that already struggle for viewers, you should strike while the iron is hot.
Love both seasons of Fargo – but they have a problem growing their audience now – can’t imagine an 18 month delay before season 3 doing anything but killing future ratings – and the show.
