Glenne Headly passed away before she could complete work on the new Hulu series Future Man. However, Deadline reports the streaming service will still air her episodes as planned.
From executive producers Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Matt Tolmach, the comedy “centers on Josh Futterman (Josh Hutcherson) a janitor by day/world-ranked gamer by night who is tasked with preventing the extinction of humans after mysterious visitors from the future proclaim him the key to defeating the imminent super-race invasion.”
Headly, who plays Josh’s mom Diane, reportedly finished filming only five of the 13 episodes Hulu ordered for Future Man. According to Deadline, her role will not be recast and the episodes she filmed will be aired.
Co-star Haley Joel Osment told The Wrap that producers will find a way to write around her character’s absence, but the show won’t be the same without Headly:
They’ll find a way to deal with that character’s absence, but certainly for those of us who knew her from Season 1 and may have known her before, it’s going to be a really sad, empty space on the show that she’s not there anymore.
It’s just a real shame. She had so many amazing roles throughout her career, and she was going to be really hilarious in this one, too. We feel fortunate that we got the short time that we did with her, and she certainly is making a big impact on the show.”
Both Rogen and Hutcherson posted tributes to Headly on social media following her unexpected death on June 8th:
Devastated to hear about Glenne Headly's passing. She was an amazing person. Incredibly talented. Incredibly kind. I will miss her.
