Godfather of Harlem is getting ready to take a break. The EPIX drama, which stars Forest Whitaker, airs its mid-season finale tonight but will return with new episodes on August 8th.
Vincent D’Onofrio, Ilfenesh Hadera, Nigél Thatch, Giancarlo Esposito, Lucy Fry, Rafi Gavron, Antoinette Crowe-Legacy, Erik LaRay Harvey, and Demi Singleton also star in the series which follows the life of 1960s gangster Bumpy Johnson (Whitaker).
EPIX revealed more about the return of Godfather of Harlem in a press release.
“Godfather of Harlem Season 2 finds Bumpy Johnson battling the New York Crime Families for control of the lucrative and murderous “French Connection,” the pipeline for heroin that runs from Marseilles to New York Harbor. With a distribution syndicate that includes black crime bosses from other major U.S. cities, Bumpy takes a cue from his friend Malcolm X’s message of black economic nationalism. His ambitious plan will face challenges from not only the Italians but his wife Mayme, daughter Elise, rival Adam Clayton Powell, prosecutor Robert Morgenthau, and even Malcolm himself. Once again, Godfather of Harlem explores the collision of the criminal underworld and civil rights in the colorful, tumultuous year of 1964.
In addition to Oscar winner Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland) as star and executive producer, season 2 sees the return of cast members Vincent D’Onofrio (Law and Order: Criminal Intent, Daredevil), Ilfenesh Hadera (She’s Gotta Have It, Baywatch), Nigél Thatch (Selma, American Dreams), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, The Mandalorian), Lucy Fry (Bright, Vampire Academy), Rafi Gavron (A Star is Born), and Antoinette Crowe-Legacy. Cast members Erik LaRay Harvey (Luke Cage) and Demi Singleton (King Richard) have been upped to series regulars.”

I love the series….but only 6 per season is too little
I cannot believe that they never said that there would only be 6 episodes for the 2nd season, This is absolutely the best tv series I’ve seen in a long time and they just stop making episodes with no warning to us customers that get ripped off by paying 2 and 3 times to watch primetime per month, I would love to get the owner of Amazon in front of me so I could kick the **** out of him,
Totally agree, as I couldn’t find the next episode tonight. I missed the memo that season 2 is taking a summer holiday.

Whoever started this mid season finale crap needs to be fired
This show is more intense and brings startling realism in its dramatic realm than even the TV series ‘Homicide’ years ago that was based in Baltimore. It’s even better than ‘The Shield’ and ‘The Sopranos’ which were great, and I applaud Forest Whitaker for such a powerful performance along with the casting of the other actors which is SPOT ON perfect!
I love The Godfather of Harlem with Forrest Whitticker and that whole cast. Being one who use to live that life, I definitely appreciate the real life chronicles. With so many corny and phony shows out there nowadays, God father of Harlem is gonna kick them all in the butt. They cant touch it! Not to mention, even my 2 1/2 year old daughter stops whatever she’s doing whenever she hears that Theme Song.
And I say that in all honest. She will stop whatever she is doing and come stand in front of the tv watching until that opening intro video and all it’s affects with the song JUST IN CASE. That whole piece is HOT
