What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the ABC television network, The Gong Show is a wacky amateur talent competition, hosted by “British comedic legend Tommy Maitland” (Mike Myers). Celebrity judges include Will Arnett, Ken Jeong, Zach Galifianakis, Alison Brie, Andy Samberg, Elizabeth Banks, Joel McHale, Dana Carvey, Will Forte, Jack Black, and Anthony Anderson.
Performers with unique talents face off in hopes of impressing a rotating panel of three celebrity judges. When a judge determines an act does not deserve a score, he or she can grab the mallet, strike the gong, and eliminate the contestant, as long as the other judges don’t prevent that from happening. When an act pleases the judges, they allow the performer(s) to complete it, at which time the judges award between 0 and 10 points. At the end of each episode, the performer or act with the highest score wins The Gong Show trophy and a check for $2,000.17.

Telly’s Take
While ABC has been having some ratings success with game show revivals, The Gong Show has been underperforming. While I want to think that ABC will renew it for a second season, the ratings lead me to believe that it will be cancelled. I hope the gong show comes back I loved the original show with chucky Barris it’s a good hour of non political laughs please bring it back by the way we knew it was Mike Meyers

Absolutely LOVE the new incarnation of the Gong Show. Love the cheesy humor & the interaction between “Tommy Maitland” & the judges, guests & the band.
I was looking forward to seeing it last week & was extremely disappointed that it wasn’t on.

I love the show, I love how whitty Tommie Maintland {aka, Mike Myers} is. He and Will Arnette keep me laughing. Some of the acts are corny, but the good ones are priceless. I hope ABC releases a second season. I too watched the original Gong Show, but I think Mike Myers is funnier than Chuck Barris was.
Patrick Robinson This show took a while for me to really get into. I didn’t even know they brought back the Gong Show until my dad turned it on. The show I thought was a little weird at first. I didn’t get why Mike Myers was playing a character (I don’t know the story behind it someone care to explain?) I love this show more than is reasonable, but I adore Tommy Maitland and his schtik. We re-watch every episode at least three times and it never gets old.

Funny show! So campy! Mike Myers is tremendous. I seriously did not understand Tommy Maitland was a character until I looked it up. Nice to see something on prime time that doesn’t revolve around a murdered hooker. I like that the acts are bizarre and the show doesn’t take itself too seriously. I used to watch the Chuck Barrister Gong Show religiously and believe that this re-boot is fitting tribute to the original.
Can’t get past the host. The host AKA – Mike Myers is awful. He and the comedians he hangs with act like they can put anything on the air and that people will just come gather around them drooling and waiting for more. I feel like the show is all about the host – how clever, witty he can be and how well he can act like a totally different character. I’m old enough to have enjoyed the original ‘Gong Show’ with Chuck Barris. This is a tasteless imitation with a host lacking the cleverness of Barris. Ratings are falling weekly, and I assume the show will not be renewed.
This is a show that ABC should be ashamed of! From the picture of the Queen to the idiot that is the MC, it’s the worst show this network has. What’s so great about the English accent? I lived in London for years as an American and the English make fun of our accent, way of living, govt. etc. etc. I’ve never,ever, written a complaint about a TV show…ever! But this one just is more than I can keep quiet about. Sorry!!

I love Mike Meyers I think it’s hysterical love the sense of humor it’s not any sillier then Monty Python Show which I loved!
