TV show description:
Based on characters from the Batman comic books, this dark crime drama tells the early stories of iconic characters, before they became legendary crimefighters, villains. and vigilantes.
Growing up in Gotham City’s surrounding suburbs, James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) romanticized the city as a glamorous and exciting metropolis where his late father once served as a successful district attorney. He’s two weeks into his new job as a Gotham City detective and he’s engaged to his beloved fiancée, Barbara Kean (Erin Richards). Gordon is living his dream but hopes he can restore the city back to the pure version he remembers it was as a kid.
Brave, honest and earnest, the new detective is partnered with the brash, but shrewd police legend Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue). The two end up stumbling upon the city’s highest-profile case — the murder of local billionaires Thomas and Martha Wayne.
At the scene of the crime, Gordon meets the crime’s sole survivor; the Waynes’ intense 12-year-old son, Bruce (David Mazouz). Gordon feels an inexplicable kinship to Bruce and, moved by the boy’s profound loss, Gordon vows to catch the killer.
As he navigates the often-underhanded politics of Gotham’s criminal justice system, Gordon confronts imposing gang boss Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) and mob kingpin Carmine Falcone (John Doman).
He also encounters unusual characters who will end up becoming some of the city’s most feared villains — future Catwoman, teenage Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova); The Penguin, Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor); and The Riddler, Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith).
The story follows Gordon’s turbulent rise through the Gotham City police department, led by Police Captain Sarah Essen (Zabryna Guevara). He goes head-to-head with major crimes unit detectives Renee Monyoya (Victoria Cartagena) and Crispus Allen (Andrew Stewart Jones).
It also focuses on the unlikely friendship that Gordon forms with the young heir to the Wayne fortune. Bruce is being raised by his unflappable butler, Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee). It’s a friendship that will last all of their lives and will play a crucial role in helping the young boy eventually become the famed cape crusader that he’s destined to be.
Episode #100 — The Beginning…
The series flash-forwards 10 years into the future, as Bruce is set to return to Gotham for the opening of the new Wayne Tower. A series of crimes leads Gordon to believe Penguin and The Riddler are up to their old tricks. However, when Bullock is framed for a murder, Gordon begins to piece together an even more sinister plot targeting the city, and a new figure emerges from the shadows to be the hero Gotham desperately needs.
First aired: April 25, 2019.
What do you think? Do you like the Gotham TV show? Do you think it should have ended or been renewed for a sixth season?
Don’t you dare cancel this great show. I’ll send the Justice League to your house. The show is brilliant. Especially when you know who everybody is. I have been collecting Batman Comic Books since I was six. To see the criminals slowly becoming who they eventually become is brilliant. Just do me a favor. Do not forget Robin the Boy Wonder. Dick Grayson. It has always been the Dynamic Duo.
Hope there is a season five + , the fish character keeps returning …eh getting old.Enjoy the rest of the skitts though ,MANY MORE “VILLAINS” await. far far better entertainment than the garbage from NBC.Always look forward to Monday evenings!
I love this show keep it going. I serious think they need to speed up the process of Bruce Wayne turning into Batman and let Batman do some ass kicking .otherwise its just going to drag on and on about bruce wayne and your ratings will start to fall in time. After 2 seasons the villians finally became who they are and bruce Wayne is still just a kid.
The point of gotham is the build up too batman. We will never see him
I love Gotham! Keep renewing because it gets better & better each week. I curious about Bruce becoming, “The Batman”.
I had always wanted to watch Gotham but hate starting a series in the middle. I learned about all the shows on Netflix and have enjoyed Gotham more than I ever anticipated. Batman is so over done, and the movies are all dark and sinister. This show is very different from the movies and more like the original series. The characters in Gotham are current, believable, and creative. I love seeing how the different villains are portrayed. Young Bruce is getting older, but wonder how he will be as an adult “Batman”. Alfred is awesome. Wonder if Salina will be… Read more »
Gotham is a rare gem of a television experience. Smartly written and flawlessly acted, Gotham shines vividly as canon characters are re-imagined in a new light; while remaining true to their core selves. Relationships can be just as twisted and just as genuinely intriguing as the many compelling plot twists in this dark drama. Gotham, as a unique show on a level all its own, should be kept on the air. Like a sweet, rare wine, Gotham is destined to become only more and more robust with age (in the sense of additional seasons). Thank you.
Love this show. Always look forward to it. Please keep it coming!
